Help with Falco combo

I've been trying to improve my Falco and I'm having trouble with L-canceling his nair (or any of his moves, but nair is my priority). When I try to SH a nair then L-cancel to a shine I also am shielding. Is this because I'm hitting L too late, or holding it too long? I've tried over and over and if I don't shield when I hit the ground there is lag before my shine, so I'm guessing I'm not getting the cancel at all on these.

You're probably holding L to long, there's only a really short click needed to L-cancel.

I'm no expert, but....
nair stands for neutral air. It's simply hitting a while in the air with no directions. L-canceling is done by pressing L or R just before you hit the ground as you are doing an airborn attack. The technique reduces some or all of the lag time after an air attack.

ok! When L-canceling with Falco's nair, don't press the (L) button just yet, just nair and u'll see a puff of dust under Falco when he's going to finish his nair. U'll have to know exactly when this puff of dust ends, after press the (L) button when u see the puff of dust appear or end according to your timing. Press the (L) button very sligthly or u'll shield, Me i just jump when i see the puff of dust Press the (L) button, and do it again to practice my L-canceling, u can try it with all your air moves ok.
