:beezo: Hola fellow Peach players. I've come for your assistance after reading most of this particular part of the forums. I consider myself a not-so-bad Peach player, but I really can't be compared to anyone on a competitive level, I think. It is for that reason that I want to reach the next eschelon of power (or the first, if I haven't reached one yet) with the Princess.
I've learned many techniques, almost mastered some (edge guarding, turnip mind games [JOY!]), and still have some to work on (wavedashing, shuffling, and dashdancing [just can't seem to pull that off for some reason...]). Anyway, I was wondering what advice (I know this sounds pretty general...please bear with me) anyone might have to allow me to boost myself to the next level.
If anyone's interested in responding, I've got some stats about how my Peach plays. If you have advice, that's awesome. If you know of a way that I can achieve results without necessarily playing other humans, that's awesome, too (team battles and handicaps against the CPU are used regularly). Thanks in advance.
- Pretty good with turnip games...I can manuver my opponents around the field.
- Pretty good at edge guarding...Fox can't come back no matter how he tries.
- I'm decent at proactive finishes...I'll jump off the stage to crown someone, but can get back safely whether or not I hit (approx. 60% of the time).
- I can see lots of moves coming, but usually only in mid- to long-range combat. That being said, my standing dodge skills are sub-par.
- I'm pretty good at countering moves, but I have trouble finding out how to land safely when moves I can't counter launch me into the air.
- I suck at wavedashing and dashdancing...I always seem to jump after the second or third of either dash...maybe it's just improper technique...but is it really necessary?
- My throwing game isn't bad. I'm a decent freestyle comboer also.
- I'm pretty nimble on the field, but that's different from being quick, which is something I really am not. It gets me in trouble with Marth and Fox many times.
- Shuffling...I really can't seem to do it. I would love some help here. However, as with wave and dashdancing...is it necessary?
I know that practice is what works best, and I can assure you that that is what I'm doing. However, if anyone has advice that's a little more...tangible, please don't hesitate to share. Thanks.

It's good to see that you've come here with the right attitude.
The simplest, most obvious and effective advice i can give you is to go and get expereice against good players at tournaments. It's the fastest and really the only way to really improve your game. A good player will expose the weaknesses in your game and if you can pick up on this too then you've found something you can work on and trust me you will. You'll also need the experience playing against good opponents who use a variety of charcaters, this will give you an idea of how Peach fares against most of the cast. Mindgames are something thats also going to come along with the experience as you learn from your mistakes.
For the technical side of you game. I personally play a lot of BtT, i'm top 15 in world and i've found that his has helped my technical game and speed/reactions immensly. L-cancelling becomes a habit very quickly if you force yourself to do it. I would also advise going into versus mode against a level 1 CPU on FD or a simple stage like that. (I prefer VS mode to training mode because you can use the c-stick) and practice simple techniques like float cancelling, shuffling, wavedashing etc I still spend upto to 2 hours at a time just doing things like this to keep my game sharp. It's very important that you do that because at high levels of play Technical skill can be the difference between two players with mindgames or experience of a similar level. You can also practice throw combos and the %'s to use them on different charcaters etc.... the list goes on and on.
Go to tournies, and as your mind games develop you'll know when and how to use your technical skill effectivly.

:beezo: Thanks. Now that I'm on break, I can get my technical game up with your advice. I've also been itching to get to a tournament for a while just to see how far I can get...if I get far at all, and hopefully I can find one soon. Thanks again.

Go there and download any Wavedashing and Dash dancing tutorials.
Note: When I mean any wavedashing Tutorials, I only mean the easy ones. DONT GET THOSE THAT INVOLVE WAVEDASHING WITH THE CONTROL STICK.
...Stupid crap is hard, and I know only about 2 people that live around me that acctually do it. o.O...
Well you can get it if you like. :P

- I'm pretty nimble on the field, but that's different from being quick, which is something I really am not. It gets me in trouble with Marth and Fox many times.
Peach won't ever be very quick, at least not Fox like speed anyways. against marth and fox, priority and waiting is way more important then your own speed. tournament level foxes are very fast, the only way to get hits in and kill him are by reading what hes going to do and do something against it (if hes gonna jump, jump+n-air which interrupts a lot of things. if hes gonna dash, WD back and do some freaky stuff (usually d-smash :P)). against marths this is even more important, paying aggresive against a good marth is a no no, lure him into attacking and try to counter it in any possible way.
because peach isnt the fastest char, ull get hit a lot if you dont have any mind-games.
The only thing that gives peach a bit of extra speed (and one of the things that IS necessary in tournaments for a peach) is WDing, dash dancing and dbl-jump cancelling. I wouldnt try the last one since its very hard, I doubt much peaches actually use it in tourneys anyways (I do >.>). Just practice WD with luigi or something and do it a lot... a WHOLE lot. then try with peach, the timing is a little bit slower but ull get used to it (just like l-cancling)
- I can see lots of moves coming, but usually only in mid- to long-range combat. That being said, my standing dodge skills are sub-par.
this sort of thing comes with experience, just like all the mind-games everyone is raving about. attend a lot of tournaments, play with a lot of different players and ull belong to the pr0s in no time :P
- Shuffling...I really can't seem to do it. I would love some help here. However, as with wave and dashdancing...is it necessary?
shffling is necessary, but with peach it isnt that important of a factor to l-cancel much. ofcourse ull be better off knowing to l-cancel correctly, but IMO WD and dash dance are more important.
nyways, reading ur whole post it just seems to me that you lack a lot of experience. so I guess I should wish you good luck @ ur next few tournaments ^^

:beezo: Thanks a lot. I'm trying to get into some tourneys nearby. Hopefully I can improve my game with some experience. Thanks again. ^_^
About shuffling: You're not supposed to be able to shuffle "well" with Peach as it's impossible. Unlike most other characters, Peach can't do an aerial and THEN fastfall.
Peach and the characters with a DJC have to fastfall first and THEN do an aerial. It's impossible to shuffle otherwise with Peach. Keep that in mind.

uhh, i dont see what you mean. I just shuffled 3 bairs into gannondorf by jumping, aerialing, fast falling, and lcanceling... i clearly fell faster after i bair'd. So what do u mean? i know you have alot more experiance than i do so i would like some clarification. :lick:

You can shuffle with her but what Yuna means is that she's floaty so you wouldnt want to do it a lot and it does suck her. Try float canceling with her, its much more better.

Not much else to add, except for aerial juggling has always been my favorite thing to do. Lure them to you, get them in the air, and use the up smash with the aerial up-stick attack (not very good with move names).

fallen angel had the last useful post in this thread... BACK IN 2K4.
to alleviate my post form being just as bad as "thewayistao's", i shffl with nair and follow up with dsmash ONLY if i hit the other guy with the bi kicks. they also has to be high percent. if they have low percent i instead shffl the nair to a utilt and fc uairs

:017: My, my, my...
I remember this thread. o_0
But yeah, it's pretty useless now. However, everyone who helped me can rest assured that I conquered all the problems (read: things I was too lazy to practice) I had. Unfortunately, I've put Peach on hold for a while until I get better at the game in general. I think she was making me look like a better player than I actually was. Everyone knows the phrase, "Sheik is a sucky player's best disguise." Something like that, but not to a very bad extent, I think. Anyway, just wanted to say one last thank you to everyone who gave me constructive advice. ^_^
