Yea so my Marth friend is a trigger happy fsmasher. His edgeguarding is impeccable, and whenever I shield, he shffls a dair. I try and spam SHL and confuse him by advancing, retreating, and then moving in, but he always stops my advance with a dtilt. Any suggestions?

As a general and obvious suggestion, SHL, but you may want to just SHL on the spot. Take advantage of the fact that Marth has no projectiles. He has to either advance, or stand there and gain damage. Marth's fsmash is slow and you can always stop it with a SHL, neutral A, or even a dsmash (not recommended to do all the time).

When you shield, are you in front of him or behind him? If you're in front of him, I think your friend is rather dumb to shffl a dair =P... On the other hand, if you're behind him, just let your shield absorb the damage and punish him for it. Marth's shuffled dair has considerable lag because firstly, due to his floatyness, he takes a slightly longer time to fastfall and secondly, dair has major lag, and still has some lag after l-cancelled. I think you have so much time as to usmash him.. You can stick to the safer methods though. Shield grab, dsmash (at higher percentages), dair, ftilt, shorthop bair, etc. Even if he lands behind you when he shuffles the dair, utilt will be your best bet coz' it's fast and starts behind you.

When you advance, avoid the dtilt by shuffling your dair, if you're going for a direct approach. Make sure you land behind him to avoid shieldgrabs. Or, SHL, land in front of him, neutral A, shine and follow up with whatever you please. Falco's neutral A is faster than Marth's dtilt and the first punch kind of sucks your opponent in.

No advice about bypassing his edgeguarding. Falco's recovery sucks and is so predictable. If your friend edgeguards perfectly, you can't avoid it. Best you can do is sweetspot and mix your recoveries up.

marth's fsmash isn't so slow that you can interrupt it with shl, i've learned this the hardway too many times. you can maybe clank or interrupt with your jab or tilt since it's overhead, i wouldn't try to shine him out of it unless you're pointblank, at which range he probably wouldn't be fsmashing you, anyway...

shl is most definately your buddy, especially since marth can't stop it with his sword. your usual mixups would be shl- then grab/dash attack/aerial (whichever suits)/spaced ftilt. dash attack won't be used as much unless you happen to stun them with the laser before hand, because you're pretty open. grab's one of the safer followups, just because he'll have to dodge it which means you can train him to do that, then punish as you will. spaced ftilt can't be grabbed, but you have to have it spaced very well and dodge as soon as possible.

if dtilt's the problem while you're advancing, you could try to spam alot of shl to get him antsy or riled up a bit and advance with shl towards him. if he shields, use a mix up, if he ducks to try and cc the lasers and then dtilt you, go for an aerial. you'll probably go for spike all the time, but at higher damages remember that a sex kick'll send horizontal really well, which would probably be better than just launching him. at lower damages, just do whatever suits you best, just remember to cancel into shine and follow up or back away again.

eh... that's about all i got, heh...
