View Full Version : L Canceling with Marth (Obviously)

Alright, I keep seeing how useful L canceling is, but can't seem to do it. Do any videos show Marth using it just to show it specifically. I have the Marth and Shiek battle which is pretty bad ***, but I still have no idea when to press L. Any suggestions?
Sorry for posting another thread so soon.

press the L or R just a hunch (like 1 or 2 frames) before landing. Since Marth is quite floaty his L-canceling looks like it needs different timing than, say fox
Note, it only looks different because fox falls so fast it seems you have to press L-exatcly when you are landing
Practise makes perfect! I suggest learning it with Bowsers Back-air first, youŽll see the difference right away:
As for good L-canceling vids, a vid with Kens, Zulus, Azens or Runes Marth will do just fine.

With Marth seeing it is very subtle so don't practice it with him. I suggest practicing it with Link or Bowser or Ganondorf and then using it with Marth. You may be able to tell the difference when you know exactly what it is and what it feels like when you do it correctly. Like I know if I l-cancelled the move or not because I can feel how fast I'm moving and I can tell when it's too slow. Which is the only reason why I think I"m not l-cancelling Roy's fair correctly >_>
Also adding to the conversation a little, does anybody else notice no difference when l-cancelling Link's uair? I know it's not related to Marth but it's been annoying me for awhile now.

there is quite much difference canceling links uair or not canceling it, because if you donŽt cancel it, youŽll get punished.
If you do cancel it, you can possibly continue juggling.

Timing should be pretty much the same as teching. To see if you did it right, try to sidestep or neutral a or something right afterwards.

Thanks, Practicing it with Bowser made it terribly obvious, but it made Bowser a blast to play with. I practiced it with Link as well and I could tell when I was doing it right, which is an improvement. I'm still not sure with Marth, but I'm going to practice it a bit more with bowser and Falco before trying it with Marth again.
The title of your topic is misleading to me. Why is it obvious that you're using Marth? There's nothing wrong with Roy players; there's just not many. Look at NEO, Masashi, Azen, they all have insane Roys.

Whether they have been said or not, I will reiterate.
Link's dair
Bowser's Bair
Ganon's Dair
All good moves to practice L cancelling with. They show the most changes of any character.
I am pretty sure (correct me if I am wrong) that you cant L cancel B moves.

This is the order I went- and it really helped. Note that this is not my personal list, because I got it from someone from this board that I do not recall. Anyway, using the list, I did a 99 stock with each character and waited till I could kill the lv-1 cpu 5 times in a row with just aerials. The catch was, I had to l-cancel every aerial. Anyway, you're supposed to start at the top and move down the list.
1) Bowser's bair
2) Link's dair
3) Y. Link's dair
4) Ganondorf's dair
5) C. Falcon's dair
6) Falco's dair
7) Fox's dair
8) Your character's dair if your character wasn't on the list
A great way to test if you l-cancelled is first to use the aerial and try and neutral tilt immediately after. Then do the same with your l-cancelled move. You should definitely notice a difference in how fast the neutral tilt came out if you l-cancelled.

I heard you can't l-cancel b moves, but I have noticed that some b moves can be slightly l canceled (it doesn't work as well). Most can't be lcanceled though, because they're either moving specials where you can start in the air and attack even as you land (like the DED and yoshi's egg roll) or they don't need to be lcanceled (Y. Links bomb pull) or they just have to much lag for it to matter (Yoshi's down b). I can't remember which specials I try to lcancel...I think it's the b ups, but that shouldn't work eve though it shows the same type of landing cloud as lcanceling does.
No dude, just no, you can NOT L-cancel ANY B moves.. not even "slightly". Known fact, really, you can't.

^ true, however, you can edge cancel some B-moves. The only one I know is PK fires afterlag though.
Many B-moves donŽt even get ledge cancelled, but I have to check this. One cool trick with Marth is Shorthop to ledge and chare your neutral B so that you hit ledge and slide off from it while still charging it. ItŽs quite hard though. And it doesnŽt have anything to do with "cancelling" B-moves

Its not really l canceling but you can cancel Docs up b so he doesn't go as high. This is extermely hard to do, I can' t do it.

That's what I figured...so that trick I use with yoshi where I dair and then slip off the edge of a platform to immediately uair afterward is called ledgecancelling? It's a fun combo.^_^

For my sheik's L-canceling I went into training mode and slowed the speed down to see the difference.

You can jump cancel b moves..... er land canel?
Well you know what I mean, jump canceling Samus missles and SHL with the space animals and Sheiks needle canceling.
I think that's what Zeldrew was thinking about.
Uh about l canceling with Marth.... just press l when you fast fall and you should get it.

L/R canceling with Marth is so incredibly easy, and if I were you, I'd practice up with Marth and get the L/R canceling down pat.
