I think if you watch any video of Thunders' Luigi (Japanese player) you'll notice that to aid his recovery he uses the down B. He gains a very large amount of distance with it, be it vertical or horizontal. I know that you can use the downB to at least stall, and gain a little horizontal distance. But I never imagined it could make that much of a difference.

Thing is... I can't do it... I can barely gain height at all... Is there some trick to it, like moving the control stick immediately? Or do I just need to strain my muscles pressing B at Japan-speed?

The down B is somthing I've been trying to add to my Luigi's game as of late. Luigi's is a bit wierd, though.

The faster you tap B, the higher you can go with the move; this is the same for Mario and Doc too. If you go into training mode and put it into 1/4 speed, you can see pressing B really fast will take you high into the air. A friend showed me a really weird thing though, if you use Luigi on 1/4 speed and do his down B in the air, it only seems to take him up every other time. It's really weird that way. In game, though, I've noticed that it doesn't seem to take you up unless you do his down B sometime during the match before trying to get back onto the ledge with it. I'm still practicing this though, so I'm not completly sure. I still need to experiment with it. I also press the control stick wichever way I'm trying to go with it, I'm not sure if that helps or not either.

Yeah, you have to tap B at Japan speed. CJ said thunderousjoltean taps B very very fast. He even said if he plays Domination in Mario Party 5 he presses it so fast that the game doesnt even register he is pressing it. So just press it that fast. =P

At the start of the match Luigi's downB randomly will rise or not the first time. But as long as you do a downB that at ANY point has touched the ground, the next downB can make you rise.

Yeah, I thought it was something like that. Now, Is it that if the Luigi tornado touches the ground, all other down Bs afterward will bring you up, or do you have to redo it on the ground after everytime you use it to gain some height?

do you have to redo it on the ground after everytime you use it to gain some height?

yes. everytime you use it to gain height you have to 'reload' it by doing one that touches the ground.

i am one of the few people who use this.....of course i noticed it is more effective with luigi then mario and doc because of is slow fall....which also makes it easier to time and the more you hit b the higher you go.......

It doesnt help much but it has saved me enough times to know that it is useful at points.
