View Full Version : Standard B canceling

I hope there isn't already a thread for this, but I've never seen anyone else do this so I don't know.

You run, then do a high jump and standard b as soon as you leave the ground, then go as far horizontally as you can, and do another standard b as you land, and the 2nd one will follow the 1st one. Possible uses for this are kinda limited, but if the opponent is coming back to the ledge it can stun them twice very quickly. You can jump and do the standard b and then land and do an attack also.

You're not really cancelling anything. In fact, you are just throwing two projectiles. A few characters that have slow projectiles can do this, pretty obvious and situational.

Yeah, its not really a cancel like jrta said. Its just throwing two projectiles in a row. I guess it can be used to protect you while you land by stunning the opponent. The nuetral b then attack is kinda a standard tactic. The thunderjolt stuns them so you can land safetly and do a nair or ground attack. Throwing two projectiles at a recovering opponent isn't always a good idea since the first might be enough to kill them and a second could give them a chance to get back on the stage.

I agree. Using two standard b's in a row can leave you open to an attack if your opponent knows what he is doing. Here are some better techniques you can use to clear the gap between you and your opponent.

1. Dash to your opponent, jump, use standard a in air. Press L right before you land to speed up lag, then either try a grab, down b or side b.

2. Dash to your opponent, jump, use standard b in air ONCE!! This may trick your opponent, who is expecting you to do the first one

Hope that helped your game. There are probably many more ways to clear the gap between you and the opponent, I just don't what they are.

alright demon caterpie, first of all I know how to L-cancel, so you should start saying that instead of speed up the lag. Second, I don't use this to "clear the gap" I use it when they are coming back to the edge. If I wanted to attack, I would do a fair lcancel Up or Down Smash or something.

Yeah, no special technique here, though using thunder jolt well is **** important to Pika.

I'd go and explain some really nice sets up and stuff but I can't explain them >.< They just happen and I go with it, as it's highly dependent on what the opponent happens to be doing at the time.. ah well.

Sorry if English be bad, gore. I was just trying to help. Anyway, using your technique for edge guarding isn't a good idea either. The opponent could dodge the first thunder bolt, and the second would just leave you open to an attack. A better idea for this situation is to use one thunder bolt, or an up a spike.

Especially the up a spike.

off topic:

yeah, i thought fair LC'd to usmash or dsmash was pretty good until i played people that didn't suck. don't use fair; they can recover and block/counterattack before you can combo. learned this the hard way against a peach who fed me a deathdress every time i tried.

newer players often think that this works because the CPU opponents always DI fair up, so they are stunned in the air and will be hit by the combo. good players will CC it.

You shouldn't start threds just for points, gore. You should start them because you have something important to say or a question about something, not to increase your post number.

I thought this was about b canceling. Can we just stay on topic?

I thought this was about b canceling.
Are you even reading? This is exactly how our previous flame war started. You can't cancel B-moves, he wasn't doing any cancelling of any sort. He was just waiting for the move to end. If this wasn't explicit enough for you, either stop and read everything again or prepare for a flame barrage.

Calm down jrta. The thread's called Standard B canceling. Of course you can't b cancel in those terms.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. Let me try again

"I thought this thread was about how to use thunder jolt in a way so that it resembles b canceling"

And next time, do us all a favor and think before you post.

...Okay...

I'm gonna be the man and walk away from this conversation.

The standard b cancelling said by this thread's creator is a great move everyone should try it out. I did and I've had some great results.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaargh, stop calling it b canceling.

you're better off alternating full jump and short hop jolts to keep moving at all times than using it on the ground. i mean you're only sacrificing the 3 frames it takes to jump anyway.

Sorry, I just said it to prove a point.

If people are that mad about it, I'll stop calling it by that name.

It would be pretty cool actually cancelling B moves, high level fights would be like Guilty gear in average play :D, so much faster, imagine, thunder jolts would be slower versions of Falco's short hopped laser. But unfortunately, you can't.

Maybe they'll put those in Smash Bros. 3.
