I saw a video on a different site that shows young link throwing a bomb on the ground without it blowing up. It might tell you how, but its in a different language, and i don't have the language packet for it. Its probably a newb question, but how can you do this?

P.S.- Heres the site:http://hp742.hp.infoseek.co.jp/smadx/play/collect_younglink2.html

P.S.S.- The site has some other really good videos on it too with some cool tricks. Just look at what the URL is at the bottom of your web browser. Or, you can watch 'em all, like I did. :)

The timing of this is somewhat hard, but it is certainly not impossible to drop a bomb on the ground without it exploding.

The trick is to drop is in the air the MOMENT you're landing. If you time this within a frame or two, the bomb will be set on the ground.

However, it's much easier to set a bomb on a platform. If you drop through it or jump up through it, you can much more easily time a drop to get a bomb to sit on the platform. That's generally a trick I mess around with when I finish an opponent off - set bombs on platforms. While this may not USUALLY do much it can serve a purpose. For one, you might be able to combo your opponent into it. Second, it's a distraction, which may irritate your opponent. Third, they may try to grab it and throw it at you, which would waste their invincibility time while really doing next to nothing (they have very limited time to throw it, making them predictable about it).

With a little practice, you can set bombs on all three platforms on battlefield before the first explodes. With a significant amount of practice, you can blow yourself up with all three. Not that this is useful in any way, but just something else you can do with the bombs to practice your timing. (I'm not sure you can do the second with adult link btw, never really tried)

Hope that answered your question. I didn't watch the video, so it might have had something other than what I was mentioning.

So really, laying bombs is not so much about some amazing tactic as simple careful timing. I'm not 100% sure how many frames you have where you can drop it, but I think it's about the same as L-cancelling, which is 4 frames (1/15 of a second).

Thanks, but now i need to ask 2 more follow up questions.

1) Do you have to be holding a direction down when you throw it? and
2) Does it matter what button you push to throw it?

ah.

in this case, you are NOT throwing the bomb. You are simply dropping it. If you throw it, it will explode on contact regardless. You have to hit z and drop it from the air for it to land on the ground without exploding. There are other situations where that may happen (such as throwing a bomb upwards and having a platform exactly at the spot where the bomb is at the peak of the throw) but in general you have to hit z while in the air to drop the bomb right above the ground so it doesn't detonate instantly.

If you can drop it with another button (I think its Z anyway) then that would work too, but you can't aim it in any direction to leave it on the ground.

dude, it's way harder to try to set a bomb on the ground with Link or Y. Link by short hopping straight up and dropping the bomb when you land rather than SHing in a direction. There is no real hard timing, you just have to short hop backward or forward and drop it then, for some reason the timing is a lot easier when you SH in a direction rather than just straight up though still possible.
