Whats up guys. I'm here cause I need help with float canceling.
Basically, my problem is implementing the float canceling into my game against fast characters like fox. I can do the actual Float cancel easily, 100 percent. But the problem is I keep getting smacked out of the air by fox with his jumping nuetral A if i'm to high, or getting hit by a grab or his forward smash if i'm to low. Should I work on my spacing when starting it? Maybe i'm having problems with staying in the air to long? Basically, I think i'm using float canceling in the totally wrong way, but i'm not 100% on that. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Oh yeah, if you guys need more info on how I play before you can help me, i'll be happy to tell you guys.... Anything to get better, right? :P

I would suggest grabbing a turnip then jumping forward, throwing the turnip, float at them and then try your float cancelled attack.
Also try floating at them when they aren't ready, for example while they are flying from a previous attack, or right after they miss an attack at you.
Other good times to use float cancelling are in part of combos. For example you hit them in the air with a back air and if they don't go flying very far, you can fall some then begin to float and then hit them with another back air, float cancel it into a dash attack. Speaking of dash attack something I have been trying to work on is dash attack and if they go pretty much straight up doing a float canceled up air and following up with more, as opposed to what I am in the habbit of doing now, which is just following the dash attack with a neutral air.
Anyways I think you might be suffering from trying to use float cancelling too much. I too am suffering from this, because it is relatively new to me so I try to use it whenever I can to help master it. But you must be careful when attacking from the air when they are already in readiness position.
I hope some more people give advice because I am in no way a master of this game yet and I would like to hear other suggestions.
Also try to watch some vids off direct connect of peach, they all use float cancelling well.

You want to mix in a few down aerials so the opponent can't just knock you out of everything. Down aerial is a multi-hitting move, and if you can control the float, you can often just graze the opponent with it to cancel out any slightly slower counterattacks and lead directly into a stronger aerial (nair, bair, uair are the most useful). Like in your fsmash example, if you approach with down aerial, Fox won't have enough time to fsmash without getting hit out of it straight away. If you float-cancel a dair so the last hit connects right before you land, you can even combo into slaps or the dsmash.
When fighting Space animals and Capten Falcon, you should be chaingrabbing uthrows anyways. They only try to DI out of it and even it, if you're good enough, they'll be in their 120ies before they can escape.
