MoF taught me a thing about jump canceling grabs... so that you can basically do a standing grab from a dash. I've since tried to put this to use, but find that i always end up passing the person by. Am I not activating the grab quick enough? It seems like I'm underestimating the range of FOx's grab or somethign and not trying to do it until i'm right on top of whoever it is... some thoughts, please.

I wanted to vote all those choices cuz they're all funny. :chuckle: :p I voted avacado tho.

Anyway, I still mess up this occassionally myself. It basically is all about timing. You just need to try it a couple times in training mode until you figure out the range/timing.

IMO boost grabbing is better. JCG is good depending on how you use it. But if the person sidesteps you, you would be righ in front of them. Plus it doesn't have as much range as even a normal running grab. It does have less lag but if you miss it won't make that big of a difference LOL.

So basically, you run press A then press L/R a little bit later. You will start to do you dash attack then do a running grab. It will give you much more distance, twice as much in Fox's case. It's the same kinda thing as the upsmash cancels a jump. The game designers never expected you to press A and L/R at the exact same time (the Z button wasn't added til last minute). With some characters it creates wierd looking animations or properties of the grab.

I would definantly have to say Avacado....... it just makes so much sense.

I know, whenever you are in an uncomfortable situation or a party is dying, simply say Avacado and the results can only be good!!

Man, this thread went downhill fast.

That's because only suicide calls it a "boost grab". :p Other people like myself call it a "Dash Attack Cancelled Grab" (DACG). You gotta have "cancel" in there somewhere.

Correct me if im wrong but isn't DACG only useful with Sheik? I heard it only gives a speed boost to her anyway.

Boost grabbing is just easier to say LOL plus it sounds better. And no it's, in fact, worse with Shiek than Fox. I tested it. While Shiek does get a boost from it, Fox's is more noticable. Compared to a normal running grab, it gives Fox about twice the range and in a slightly longer frame period (you have up until the third frame of the running A to press L/R for it to boost you, after that you will just do running A). Marth's is also really good. Falco's is the same as Fox, but his lack of speed makes it so so. Kirby's... is just funny. He farts LOL

BTW the term boost comes from the fact you are boosting your grab range. Plus it also looks like you are getting a boost like if you were playing Fzero. Although DACG is more accurate. LOL

I knwo its kinda off topic, but just for the record, Kirby's is the funniest "Boost Attack" (I call it the DACG). Anyway, this is purely because he gets fire when he does it.

BACK ON TOPIC :

I mean, although its not so much as useful (range-wise) with some people as others, I use it with them incase I whiff. The lag on a missed Standing grab (from either a normal Standing Grab, Jump Cancelled Grap, or a Dash Attack Cancelled Grab) is less that that of a running grab. It just makes more sense to use it. Oh well, that's my 2 cents.

Well I did a lot of tests on this a while ago. JC Grabs give you about half as much range (in terms of Fox's position) as a normal running grab. A boost grab gives you almost twice the range. But here is the thing. During a grab only 2 frames are when the gra can actually connect. A normal standing grab or a jc grab have much more range in front of Fox (it covers his hand as it's swipping and goes up to about 3/4 of a body length ish). A running or boosted grab (they have the same animation) has more range behind Fox. The range goes from his hand backwards to the end of his tail as he finishes. So compared to a standing grab a running grab has more range positionwise and more range with the actual grab. But jc grab do have a lot less lag, although with a boosted grab you can easily run past them if the sidestep and be clear outta the way for them to counter.

I knew Avacado was gonna have the most votes.

It's most useful with Fox
Least useful with Mewtwo
Learn it with Fox or Mario because you'll know you've done it: puff of wavedash-like dust/whahaa! sound
This thread is troublesome :\
