help with Falco vs. Sheik

ok my friend has a pretty good shiek, and he kills me consistently, which bugs me sometimes, because sheik is what he uses like 90% of the time. anyways, he doesnt wavedash too much, and needle abuse a lot, like if he knocks me off the stage, he'll spam needles while i firebird up, rinse and repeat, until i screw up with my edge sweetspots and die. he also shield grabs a lot, and part of that is my problem, because i cant l-cancel when i play human players, or atleast for falco. :rolleyes: (i suck lol) i would also say hes got a good mind game going, because i always roll into his downsmashes and stuff. any tips and tricks will be greatly appreciated.

My friend played a superb sheik and beat me often until I picked up falco, and he just couldn't seem to handle him.

I suggest shining into any aerial when u need some breathing room, abuse the SHB as much as possible, do NOT dodge when youre close to sheik - her downsmash will hit you anyways.

sheik is also vulnerable to triple shines on stages such as the highest part of corneria

and most of all do everything in your power to avoid the chop.

LEARN TO LCANCEL...

You will win if you do, it's not hard really just practice the **** out of it. Since he beats down on u anyway, use your matches as training for it. Keep doing aerials until you perfect you L-canceling. SHB spam is good to do, but weave in and out to throw her off. Edge hog too. Shiek's main return strat is to grab the edge, then she will definately come back. Force her to land on the level, fall off the edge jump and hit her with a spike or nair. Abuse tilts and use downsmas whenever you see a chance. Forward smash is real good, but it's a lot more punishable than down.

i know i need to Lcancel, and i can do it, its just that i cant do it when against human players, mostly because i cant fastfall dair when i play him iono why, but if i do, i would shine and follow with some jump cancelled aerials. i SHB a lot, in fact thats like the thing i do when im not doing anythin else. sometimes i spike sheik when shes doing a ledge hop slap, and of course edge hog is essential, i do it when i knock sheik out far enough. the most problems i have with sheik is his needle edgeguards and dsmash. however, i dont really use the tilts and dsmash, so i'll try that next time i play him. thx for the advice so far, keep them coming

My Falco generally does pretty well vs Sheiks. Beating her isn't really complicated, but beating a good Sheiks (assuming your friend is "good") will require L-cancelling, so your first priority should to be to learn and MASTER that, for I feel it's the most important technique in the game.

As for how to play against her, use your SHL as much as you can to keep her away. She can't crouch under it, so it pretty much forces her to approach you. When she does, do whatever to her. Grabs, tilts, a fsmash during the laser stun, whatever you want or can do. Spiking Sheik can be tough because of the teleport, but as TSF said, edge hog, and force her to go for the stage. Her up B is so laggy however, that you should be able to get back on the stage, and send her flying back off with a fsmash. Just make sure you hang there long enough to FORCE her to try for the level, then just edge hop back on, and smash away at the defenseless ninja.

Against shield grabbing, shffl Falco's aerials at her, mainly his dair, and if it's shielded as soon as you land (L cancelling is vital to this, if you don't L cancel, then you'll be to slow) do a shine. If it works as planned, the Shiek who has dropped her shield to shield grab you will be shined. Sounds simple? Well it is, but Lcancelling is vital for it to work at all.

Main tip = Learn to L cancel.
