I really need help with that triple shine thingy. First off I dont even know how to do it, and when I have tried (with help from friends), I have failed miserabely. While I'm at it, when would you get an opprotunity to use it, like when you dodge your opponants smash attack or something?

Thanks for whatever help you guys might give me.

I find this hard to do as well, but it is one of the hardest techniques that Falco has.

There are 2 ways to do the triple shine

1) The fast way: Shine+ jump+ Shine+ Jump+ Shine. This needs to be done extremely fast. You need to jump out of the Shine the frame afterf the hitbox connects otherwise your opponent will fly too high for you to follow it up with anything. If you can do this consistantly your opponent will have a hard time getting out of it because there is no time for them to DI left or right. Im not sure if DI'ing downwards affects this at all.

2) The slow way: Same method as before, but you do a high jump and follow the DI of your opponent. This isnt as effective as the 1st one but is a good place to start off. You still have to be fast or your opponent can counter attack with an aerial.

The normal triple shine (shine -> full jump -> shine -> full jump -> shine) doesn't work on everyone. It only works on characters that have medium weights and are not floaty, for instance Ganondorf, Link, and Sheik. For the fast fallers (Fox, Falco, and possibly Captain Falcon) you have to do the "faster" triple shine that Cubed64 said, and for floatier characters like Peach you have to shine -> double jump -> shine.

This combo can KO on levels with low ceilings, so you may want to experiment with that and get to the point where you are comfortable doing it in real matches. Another good thing to note is that the opponent DIing the shine can mess this up because it will send them off at a hard angle that is difficult to follow.

Hmm, interesting.... I knew you could do this, but I never thought it'd actually be useful. ^^; Thanks Cubed and Fatman for the tips.

When your opponent CC's he will stay at the ground, and CCing is a form of DI'ing.

ok, i got a new idea/question, i was doing the triple shine stuff to my friend's fox the other day and i found that i can go fast enough to where i just do shines jc them and then do another shine before leaving the ground. the best i was able to do was 3 on the ground then double jump out, does anyone know if you can do the on the ground forever? cuz when i did the 3 one, i was sitting outside of his shield doing it until he tried to jump out, so if someone could maybe give their opinion on this.

What you have done, Cap'n Cruch, is shined then quickly jumped out of it and shined again almost instantly. When you are in your second shine you drop just far enough to hit the ground before you jump and shine again. Theorectically you could do this infinitly but there is no point as your opponent could attack you quite easily.

Thanks people! This board has really helped my Falco game! I was wondering how to jump cancel a shine and now I do. Now I also know a new combo! W00t, time to rack up damage from 0% easily! Check out my thread, Falco's Edgeguarding.

I cant seem to get the second shine done no matter how hard I try. By the time the second shine actually starts, my opponant is at least twice as high off the ground as I am. Is there something I could be doing wrong?

^ ya know that you can jump outa that first shine right? that's basic for all o' falco's shine combos. you should also work on his shine >> spike >> shine... combo, and shl while running. ;)

There's a window of time during your shine that, instead of waiting for the whole animation to end, you can jump and cancel the animation early. If you hone your timing, you can reach the point where you see the reflector for the tiniest fraction of a second before you jump. I assume that this is the way you achieve the triple shine - very fast JC'ed reflectors. The timing seems crazy but I'm certain you could send an opponent way up there with this. Personally I'd stick with two shines followed by an aerial, but hey, to each his own.

You were asking about how to place it also, and I don't think anybody mentioned that... Try his short hop laser to close distance into a shffl'ed down air. If they try and shield grab, they eat a shine, if they wait for the shine, you JC out of shield grab range, so that tactic would probably be safe (given the speed of the shine animation - you'd probably interrupt most attacks they have with decent timing)... you could also insert the triple shine by following an opponent's roll, whether it's from a tech, a shield roll, or whatever.
