Okay.. I just wanted to get some seasoned player's insight- heh.. seriously though, does anyone here believe that samus is cable of winning a tourney? Even if one masters the wd and other advanced techniques with her, does anyone believe that will make a difference? I'm not going to go into the whole tier argument, I just wanted to find out what everyone else thought about samus and the chances of someone taking a tourney with her.

Wes, the best Samus user in the country, took 1st on Sunday at a decently sized tournament in NJ. He also always makes top ten at every tournament he goes to, even the really big ones.

Unlike some characters, wavedashing is absolutely necessary with Samus. She has a terribly slow and vulnerable roll, which can be completely replaced by wavedashing. Her run isn't too great, and can be replaced in many instances by wavedashing. And her wavedash is very good, on account of her quick jump speed and the length of her wavedash. While some people can manage to not wavedash with other characters, making up for it with major skill in other areas, Samus players cannot afford to skip out on her wavedash.

I'm sure if you read some more in these threads you'll find more specific information about when and where Samus can benefit from wavedashes.

Its true, Samus benefits greatly from her WD, and using it as a replacement for roll and in some cases walking/dashing is very useful. Though Samus clearly isnt the best character in the game (as much as it pains me to admit) she has very good capabilities and options. If your mind games are strong, and your technical skill is up to scratch, Samus becomes very, very powerful. Dont question that. She can certainly win a tournament, Oro even gave the example of Wes. Samus is way cool.
