View Full Version : Fox vs Peach

First I have to admit, I suck a Fox.
Well, I can do shffl'd sex-kick to shine and shffl'd D-Air to shine and some other tricks I've found out here. But nonethless I suck since I only knew a few tricks but don't have the speed or technique to play good yet. I'm predictable.
Anyway, my bro plays a rather good Peach. (There should be a vid somewhere, Dr.C againt Pulver or something like that) Nothing exceptional but he's definitely not a newbie.
The thing is, he kicks my @$$. Every now and then, I "accidently" roll to him, and he D-Smashes of course. Or he shield-grabs me and starts chain-grabbing me. I kick his *** with Dr Mario but gets owned with Fox. I really find this frustrating so please help me.

Yee I knew those. :p
Anyway, my big problem is just her D-Smash, chain-grabs and shffl-combos...
And I hope Cunning will write her too. ;)

Meh, I've got a lot fox vs peach experience.
One of the most usefull tactics is juggling, peach is easy to juggle. D-air (l-cancel off course, if you don't want being shieldgrabbed) into grab upthrow into juggle fun :chuckle:
Be carefull with using the reflector, using the reflector risks crouch canceling and that can be an instant 60% damage. Only use shine when you're sure it can go wrong or for deflecting peach' turnips.
Oh, and don't roll at all.

Thanks buddy, I'll stop using the reflector as much then.
And the D-Air to grab was cool, I'll have to try it out when my bro comes home from school. ;)
And that about rolling. I'm trying, I'm really trying hard with this one. But since I've been rolling for 800 hours it's hard to stop doing it...

Peach is a fairly easy matchup for Fox, especially on FD.
One of the easier characters in the game to juggle, and getting her into the air shouldn't be a problem considering the many shine setups that Peach will fall into. A favorite of mine is drillshine, wavedash out of the shine directly into the up smash. Master doing this, it's essential vs a good Peach.
Peach also gets caught in Fox's waveshine infinite, you should practice doing that as well.
Remember, NEVER CC her dsmash!

So, practicing waveshining is the thing then. I can do it in practice but I'm to stressed when fighting actual battles. I'll just have to practice more then. Thanks everyone for your tips, I became better right away when I tried them out yesterday. :)

For he most part you want to anti-cc. This means holding up all the time. If you get hit with a downsmash it would only hit once maybe twice. Don't rely on shffled n-airs. Use Drills and FF up airs to pop her up, then combo her ***. Use n-airs for air to air combat or b-airs. They will usually beat out some of her attacks. Watch out for her n-air when you start to juggle her bc it will rape you. Use reflector sparingly and randomly. Don't bother with the infinites, bc if you mess up you're screwed. Jump out and away from reflector. Abuse you speed and SHB her when shes far away. And it is easy to follow her tech from the downthrow, so abuse that when you can. While shes recovering jump out with a back kick or something and be careful with the reflector spike. And while you're recovering try to either go really low or really high. Use firefox when you can but throw in illusion to throw her off.
UMMMM
I dunno what else?

That was a bunch of good ideas alright.
I really needed these tips, I used the reflector to much and used shffl'd N-Air as my main charge-attack. I'll be trying to rise to your expectations. I just need more good opponents. (Why won't our local Marth show up? T_T)
Anyway, thanks for the great tips you guys given me. I appreciate them. :)
But for another question. I've almost stopped rolling now, except for when getting out of there, I occasionally happen to roll away.
You could guess I wavedash a lot. But how good is that really? Should I use his dash instead?

Fox's wavedash is great. It's fast, and it's distance is good if you maximise it. It's also useful in combos, especially when combined with his reflector. So you shouldn't replace wavedashing with dashdancing, you should use both.

*LOUD 'WRONG' BUZZER SOUND*
Dash dancing is DEFINATELY better than wavedashing with Fox. Fox IS the FoxTrot! They named the technique after him, obviously because his is the best. Fox trotting is like dash dancing but in one direction. Get good with it because it's a lot easier to run in and out of an opponent's range than WD. But don't get me wrong, wd is useful, just not so much as dash dancing. Utilize both as best you can, and see what works.
You should also never try to roll(which you don't do anymore), sidestep, or sometimes block against a Peach. Sidestepping will almost always result in downsmash, and you would also be cc it becuase of holding the forbidden DOWN. Blocking depends on the game version and how often you block.
If it's the 1st version then blocking a downsmash would be ok. 2nd and 3rd versions DON"T BLOCK! It's easy to tell the difference if you go around to the cubes at a tourny and pick Samus vs Fox or Falco and do her up-b. If it makes the dinky hit noise and goes through an opponent it's version 1. If it drags them up and makes a lower chug kinda noise its 2 or 3.
Anywayz... Blocking the downsmash even in the first version is still risky. Don't block too often because it could not only eat at your shield but also get underneath it. Your best option when standing next to a Peach and wanting to defend yourself is jump back. Or if it's of the downsmash happy variety, jump up and do a FF drill into grab. Blocking is hard to explain because there are some things you SHOULD block and some things you SHOULDN'T. Test out what you can and do what works.

Okay. Thanks everybody for your great tips. Now I only have to learn to use them all and incorporate them into my game. ;)

Even if you can infinitely waveshine her across the stage, if you can do it about twice after a drillshine it's still great.

Suicide Fox, there's always the light shield for blocking dsmash.
Don't play Kirby 64 and learn how to do waveshine-upsmashes and you'll be fine ;).

Shine combo up smash or grab, thorw up then up flip, and stay away and shot hop lazer.

That was a helpful thread... keep talking. I also have trouble with peach mostly because I'm bad at L-Cancelling. I don't find wavedashing helpful vs peach but it looks nice anyway. I've gotten better since watching Shined Blind but it still sucks getting killed because of constant shield grabs and dsmashes
