View Full Version : Fox's Best Stage?

I usually tend to counterpick with Onett, as it seems to nullify Fox's weaknesses and accomodate his strengths.

- Fox's recovery normally makes him very vurnable to edgeguarding, especially against the higher tier characters, but Onett doesn't have pits. By removing the edgeguarding factor, Fox generally would benefit more than his opponent (I think only C. Falcon, Falco, and Ganondorf have worse recoveries).

- Fox primarily KO's opponents off the top of the screen, and Onett has a very low KO ceiling compared to the other stages. This leads to faster kills at lower %'s.

- It is difficult to horizontally kill players in the center of the stage (between the two houses), since often the players can tech off the walls and roofs. Fox is one of the most difficult players to star KO because of his falling speed. Staying in the center area would therefore make it difficult for Fox to be killed.

- Onett has a total of four walls (two for each house) that Fox can use to perform his (easier) infinite combo.

I haven't seriously considered too many other stages though. What level do you guys usually counterpick with when playing Fox?

You're absolutely right about Onett. It is his best level for those reasons, and also because he is so much faster he can easily avoid projectiles from characters like Samus and Peach, Jigglypuff's WOP is null and void on that level because of the platforms, and his downthrow can force opponents to fall prey to the cars when timed right.

Other good stages for Fox are:
MKII - low ceiling, eggs can be dangerous in Fox's hands, and if you stay in the middle it can be very hard t KO a good Fox(assuming he is good at wall techning)
Corneria - low ceilings, fin camping, Arwing's Lasers can be reflected, large so you can run away, and of course the special taunt :chuckle:
Pokemon Stadium - of the 7 golden stages, this is the best. Two of the three setups have walls for wall infinites, plus on the rock setup Fox owns the pit in the middle with reflectors, downthrows, and upsmashes. The ceiling isn't low, but it's lower than FD and it's large so it's easy to run away.

Yoshi's Island with the blocks is good for Fox too, you can kill vertically at low percents there, it's easy to chain the shines up the slope on the right side to ko and you can spam the back airs up the slope without getting punished.

Green Greens has quite possibly the most deceptively low cieling I've ever seen, but it's hardly available for counter-pick most of the time; it also has a ridiculously close KO zone on the sides, so that could help or hinder him. All in all, I do believe that Onett would definitely be a good place to be.
