Read the compendium of knowledge sticked on top of melee discussion. This should familiarize you with most of the terms that are used on the boards.

For falco specific stuff, use short hop blaster a lot, drill combos (dair, shine, JC to whatever), shffl'd aerials. Drill/dsmash/fsmash to edge guard. This will make more sense after you read the compendium.

Here are a few pointers:

1) SHL: This stands for Short Hop Laser. This is an essential for falco players. It is simply what the name says, a short hopped laser. This can be chained into pretty much anything. It can also be spammed rather aggressively. You must learn this
2) The Spike: This is falco’s best aerial attack. Great for edge guarding. This is very effective when Short Hopped.
3) Reflector: A great move for combo’s. This is Falco’s fastest move, it comes out in 1 frame. You can jump out of this with no lag what-so-ever and this leads to good combo’s such as Reflector- dair- reflector-repeat, reflector into pretty much any aerial attack works well. When you have learnt to jump straight out of Reflector, you can do such combo’s as the triple shine, shine-shine-dair and shine-shine-uair. These hardly ever work on human players but it is good to have them learnt anyway.
4) Shuffling: This stands for Short Hopped-Fast Falled-L’ Cancelled. This is a very good tactic for falco because some of his best attacks are aerial moves. You can shuffle nair -shuffle dair. Combo’s are easy to do with shuffling, such as shuffled dair- reflector- dair.
5) Wave Dashing: While this isnt a major factor in falco’s game, you can always use it to your own style of play. Some good uses are run forward, just before you get close to your opponent, Wavedash backwards into a forward smash. Wave dashing is just a good technique to know how to do, use it however you see fit.

Thats the basics, any problems just quote me and ill clarify them.

Use the SHL as agressively as you can, and use your fsmash to knock them off the edge, and spike them. That's a basic Falco strategy.

Another edgeguarding technique that I am fond of, is when your hanging over the edge, and see they are going to make it back on to the stage, hop off the ledge and bair them out. It is always a suprise, and with the right timing, you'll make it back safe and sound.

Be careful though, as Falcos recovery is really, really bad.

Another useful tactic is you can link multiple down-air spikes and reflectors together. Reflector into the air, jump up to a spike, fast fall with an L-cancel, and reflector them before they can recover. Repeat, and dance them across the stage. It's a very frustrating combo to be caught in. Also, in addition to using your b-air for edgeguarding when you're hanging on the ledge, keep this in mind. If you're edgehogging, people will try to go over you with their jumps instead, so they don't futilely try to latch on and get nothing. When they start going, drop and then jump, followed by a down air. Basically, what you achieve is a spike while moving upwards, and the upwards movement (for some reason) generally keeps you from having the opponent outprioritize your move. This way, you spike them while they're triple jumping, and you remain free to land back on the stage.

I heard that the shffled reflector-dair combo only works on certain chars. So the other chars can escape it if they DI or all chars can escape if they DI?

Also, which characters does this combo work better on? I'm guessing Luigi and Samus are probably out of the question.
