View Full Version : C-Sticking... Essential or not?

On DC++ a while ago Mow (I think it was mow) said that you should C-Stick Marth's aerials(sp?). I agree with it... but I'm accustomed to using the A with a direction. Will I have to stop if I want to improve, or can I continue using the method I use?

Mow....stab yourself, PLZ!!! lol j/k Using the C-stick for aerials is not a good idea. because you will have to have your thumb on the C-stick instead of the X or Y buttons, making jumping lots harder for most ppl. It even better to use the Z bottom than the C-stick. It goes in this order: A>Z>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>poop>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>C-stick. But that's just my opinion. But you really SHOULDN'T do it. It's better to keep your current method instead. Afterall, C-stick was really only meant to do fast-uncharged (C-stick smashes can be charged, tho) smash attacks. It's really up to you, but I'd recommend using A or even Z instead of C-stick.

Use cstick when you don't want di on your aerials. especially on spikes.

Spikes are the only use I see for C sticking any aireals period, because if I press down on the control stick to do a dair, I will fastfall as I spike and then might fall too far down to recover in time. Out of habit though I never do this anyway, but it has rarely ever killed me, probably once. However this is never a problem if you do your dair spike BEFORE the top of your jump because you can't fastfall then, which is usually the case for my Marth(although most other characters tend to spike after the apex of the jump it seems). But yeah, stay with what you are doing I say, there are many very good players who never use C stick for anthing more than an occasional uncharged smash on the ground. I think C sticking aireals is awkward, and it takes longer to do since you must take your thumb off the X button after jumping, there are times when that fraction of a second may mean the diff between getting your attack off in time or not. I'd like to hear a good explanation of why someone would C stick aerials and then I might consider trying it, but as far as I know I think its dumb:] Plus I think the added touch of DI from the control stick actually can help with getting tippers.

I guess I'll just stick with A, using the C-Stick only for smashes, fastfalled uairs, and no DI dairs.

What the ****? Since when is moving your thumb hard!? How is the C-stick not a good idea?

This whole thing is a preference issue. I for one use the c-stick for every aerial outside of a sex kick, and it doesn't bother me in the least. I find it a lot easier/faster to do this way, so that's how I do it. But really, sirguydude, try out the c-stick aerials for a while, and then if you don't like it, don't do it, if you do, then go for it. That's my suggestion.

I find moving my thumb to the C-stick is just unnatural and takes a little longer to do. Or it feels like that to me. So I don't think it's that essential.

The only use that I know of that the c-stick has is the ability to DI in one direction while attacking in another. Or, you can attack without any DI whatsoever (useful for spikes). Also, it is sometimes easier to finish a combo with a quick smash, using the c stick. When I use A to finish a combo with a smash, I usually charge it up accidently for a small fraction of a second, causing a delay in the finishing move. But, I'm sure that many people probably smash attack in combos well without the c-stick.

Marthby...stab yourself, PLZ!!! lol j/k. C-sticking is actually a good idea for aerials because it lets you have more control. For Ex: When you do a fair with A you di towards your opponent, but when c-sticking you prevent that and the aerial comes out neutral with no di or with it in any direction you want. There are ppl like MB that refuse to use it because it feels unatural thought, so it's just preferance.

Eh, to me it's just about preference. I like the C stick for smashes and spikes, that's just about it. It doesn't take any time to move your thumb to it. Look at the gamecube controller. The B button is closer to the C stick than the X and Y buttons, no one complains about X and Y. If you have quick hands you'll have no problem using it.

This is not about preference, C-sticking air's with Marth it great because it leaves the control-stick completely free for input thus giving you more air-control which means---> better spacing. And since we all know Marth is all about spacing it's only logical to say C-sticking air's is better then using the A or Z button.

Just saying it's about preference or that C-stick sucks becasue you're too lazy to adapt your playstyle won't change the facts either.

I'm a huge fan of the C-stick, and use it for smashes, aerials, and spikes. The no DI effect is worth moving your thumb the...centimeter or so you have to do so.

I am fond of using Z for my sex kicks? Does anyone else play like that? C-stick everything except for sex kicks...and .. urm..tilts of course..heh.

i agree with Marthby 87, moving your thumb is just too hard....
You have to worry about moving your thumb back to the x or y to do ur 2nd jump in time, and its just too hard to do, i always use the a button, even on the ground, however im slowly converting to the c stick on the ground only...

It may be faster for some to use y/x to jump and A to attack, since that way all you have to do with the G(Gray)-stick is tilt forward to go and then whichever direction your attack is, and you can press Y and A almost at the same time to use Marth's f-air fast from the ground.

On the other hand, if you can still both space yourself and tilt the G-stick just right, at the right time, to get a short hop, then you might as well use the c-stick to attack, as that's one less G-stick tilt you'll have to do.

I guess it's preference, just depends on how well you can tap a short hop vs tilt one.
