Bomb planting

im new to ssbm(bought the game about 1 1/2 months ago), and i've been playing with Link exclusively for about a month now, i was in training mode last night practicing some combos when i accidentally planted a bomb on the ground by releasing it with z just b4 hitting the ground. after an hour or so of practice i almost have the timing down. i never played with link in the original ssb and i was wondering if y'all experienced players could give me some tips on ways this technique can be used. i was thinking mabe planting a bomb on the edge as an opponent is jumping back could b usful, tell me what u think.

If you leave it on the stage, the opponent would likely just pick it up and throw it at you or throw it away. Leaving it at the very edge of the stage is useful, especially when edge guarding against people like Captain Falcon and Fox. You can also drop a Bomb over the ledge after you leave one at the ledge itself, so there will be two Bombs guarding, limiting the choices the opponent has.
