Links WD is pretty pathetic, does anyone use it? Do you have to use it to be competitive? Does anyone know any ways to gain more distance? I used to play with Luigi who has an awesome WD. I recently switched to Link and have found WDing less useful. Any comments?
i don't used link but his wd is not the best.

I don't think Link has many uses for wavedashing. His WD is really short so it isn't that useful for moving around, but it can be useful for the standard stuff, like linking attacks together, manuvering, etc. I don't think it's neccecary, but I'm not not the best to ask.
If you can do perfect WD's (by holding the control-stick as horizontal as possible w/o doing an airdodge instead) you can get enough distance out of it for it to be usefull.
I WD when I play Link anyway..

From what I gather talking to decent link players, the backward wavedash to foward-air is probably the most effective use of link's wavedash. Quickly covering ground, however, is completely out of the question.

Just use it to look cool :D!. Watch Kubuu, he does a perfect wavedash and it looks pretty neat. Other than that, it's still long enough to be used to avoid incoming aerial attacks. Maybe Wavedash backward to spin attack, Wd back to f-smash.... I don't know.

Link's regular wavedash is practically useless. I guess there are situational uses for it... Wd'ing back to grab works sometimes.
OH! I know how you can get Link's WD to work great! just do it on the flying saucer in fourside! lol

Use the link Eramor gave if you haven’t already. He can cover ground fast, it just takes some practice to master. I’m probably one of the few Link players that use his wavedash a lot, and I can safely say that mastering it can not only make you better and faster, but can also help you play better mind games and adjust your positioning which could help you technically.
Point being: Link’s wavedash does not suck.
Allow me at least some months before I can actually get a video of what good it does when you use it properly.

Its not as useful as the many of characters wding in SSBM, but it's got its good point. Try dash dancing then wavedashing out to sneak an attack or back dash out of the dash dancing, you can do alot of stuff with his wavedashing, but it's all about know how far it will go, and knowing how fair can your opponent land a hit, I do this to judge myself so I can counterattack if I need to, its been working, so I'll keep on using it;)
