actually, they (assumingly) use that japanese program to convert this into 8-bit, which is supposed to emulate FAMICOM music, which had more audio channels than the NES.

8 bit audio is not necessarily a limitation of channels, you have to understand that.
8 bit in what context, just the NES? Chiptunes in the same fashion extend beyond the NES.
