A lot of characters can attack out of a footstool jump on the stage. Mr. Game and Watch is really good at it because of his Dair.

Go right up close to the opponent and double-jump right next to them very quickly. If you did it properly, you should just climb up your opponent and bounce off their head. Immediately use Dair and you've got yourself an unblockable Dair combo that starts within 6 frames. Nice!

Other characters can make good use of this trick too, so Mr. Game and Watch players shouldn't be left in the dark since his is one of the better ones.

yea, its nice. As a lucario player also, i did this just on instinct alone with G&W, forgetting that he makes great use of it too

How close does the key have to be in order to spike?

You can probably use this at low damage to get the 2-hit combo in, since you can attack pretty much as soon as the footstool animation is over. That's very close to the opponent.

Toon Link's fsj attack spikes pretty much every time, so it's probably the same with G&W.

Incorrect. You have to be "inside" the character model (On the lower side) for the key to spike, Otherwise it sends them Diagonally upwards.

The move has some interesting applications, I'll definetly check this out.

yeah for the key spike im pretty sure its still opening frame, immediately after taking out the key and then striking it down
at any time ur jus falling with the key u cant spike

its weird with toon link tho cuz at times theres random spikes >.>

Ohsht more reason why G&W is top tier! I thought his B-air was unblockable! Here comes the unblockable D-air combo which kills! =D

It's an unblockable Dair combo...one that begins with about the same startup and priority as a grab and doesn't leave you open if you miss. Of course it's useful in real play, just difficult to master.

This technique needs a name.

I'd call it "Unlocking". G&W is gonna become so infamous once the tournament players start using this attack.

Ugh...on the Captain Falcon boards, someone told me that the footstool jump DOESN'T drop shields. Can anyone here check?
