I was in a grass roots SSBB tourney today, and I was doing pretty well using Ness the whole time. In warm ups, I went undefeated in money matches and was doing pretty well in adapting to everyone (I haven't unlocked all the characters purely because of lack of time), so I felt pretty confident.

I made it pretty far in the tournament (top 10) but ended up getting my *** handed to me by a Link player spamming projectiles. Having never played a skilled Link (or anyone since I haven't played any humans, again cause of school), I was AMAZED at how fast his projectiles come out now. Majority of the match consisted of me trying to dodge and evade the gale boomerang, bow and arrows, and bombs. By the time I got in close, I was already at such a high percentage that any lucky hit would send me flying.

Plus, GALE BOOMERANG CANCELS OUT THE PK THUNDER

Any ideas for my future battles with projectile whores?

All I can see is get better at dodging and predicting projectiles, get up close, and play a very close defensive game.

Try double jump dodging at low percents. The momentum will carry you above link and get you past his projectiles then you can land behind him or in frot of him. I don't recomend on top though, that sword hurts.

Im a link player carrying over from competitive play in melee. I would not recommend double jumping, it would give me time a space to pull out a bomb waiting for you to come down. Your best bet is to take advantage of the shielding system it is way easier to power shield, and with the predictably and speed of the gale boomerang you can shield it and move a dash or 2 closer. Once you get close enough short hop Fair, run A, or PK fire. Do what you want... but remember you have projectiles too.

I play against link quite often and all i can say is to be aggressive. Link has the better projectiles so try to bring the fight up close.

Yeah, Link dude is right, use your projectiles, and Senor is right too, be very close, but Link has the better offensive close range game in Brawl, so play defensive, powershield and punish, watch out for his upsmash, make sure you avoid all 3 hits before you punish, use PK Fire if he misses you with it entirely, use step dodge to avoid his grab, and punish the lag with something good(I suggest dtilt to bat if you can master the spacing for the dtilt trip)

Or, try to make him eat his own projectiles with a reflect with the bat. ness is best at close range, but if your opponent likes to play with projectiles just knock them back or powershield as link dude said. As for the bombs, you can't hit those back because they'll detonate so try using the psi magnet's pushback. There's a thread on here about it repelling items.

You can grab bombs midair EASY. Especially with Brawl's new grab mechanics, you can grab just by airdodging.

A friend of mine, and pretty much the only person I smash with often, mained link in melee and now toon link in brawl. My strategy to get up close is to dodge roll towards him and avoid his projectiles with that. Also, I like to catch his bombs when he throws them at me and throw them back at him giving me a chance to get close.

I haven't played any Links yet, but like the dude above me, one of dudes I play most often mains Toon Link and I have to deal with projectiles a lot. Sometimes you can get a hit on him with a diagonal midair PK Fire, or if your aim is good enough you can hit an arrow, causing the fire to stay there and burn for a while, so you can go and start hitting short-distance. Other than that I sidedodge and roll my way through.
