View Full Version : Best strategy/tactic/advice against Wolf?

Hmm...just wondering...my friend plays as Wolf and I can get him to relatively good percents for killing...but I have a hard time trying to land a finishing blow! The lasers are nightmarish, but not that inhibiting...although the bucket's start up lag seems kinda slow (or is it just me)? :dizzy:
To paint a better picture, he uses his side-B sometimes and does a lot of back throws to up smashes. I can tech chase him for a little bit, but I can't pull it off consistently.
Also, I have some problems edge-guarding (in general that is). Back in Melee, I loved being bold and jumping off the stage and ensuring that my opponents don't get back on a la fair and nair. Now, for some reason, I can't seem to do that, and I pretty much rely on my opponent screwing up. I wish I could show you some of my matches...I don't have anything to record it with sadly. :(

Are you spamming the B-air? Because that will easily give anyone a hard time. =P

Back throw -> Upsmash should NOT connect if you try to DI or jump at all O_o.
just gimp him...Wolf's recovery is really predictable.

Oh!! I meant, my friend does a back throw to a bair (or simply just does a back throw for a launching effect) and tries to SET UP for an up smash. Sorry about that!!
In any case, yes, I'll try and see if I can spam my cute little turtle, but I have a few questions:
1) When is a good time to use my nair? I've been experimenting with it here and there, but never fully implemented it unlike all my other aerials. Should I use it a low percents or high/mid percents? I do know that the move auto cancels (which is pretty sweet).
2) Not really a question, but I think I keep spamming my dair a little bit too much (or is there such a thing?). When charge my friend's wolf, I usually jump and do a fair, dair, or bair--mostly the Key (and sometimes I fake out and grab him when he shields). I keep doing this a lot though, so I don't know if doing it a lot is a bad thing, or if I should change it up. When I jump towards Wolf, I'm VERY hesitant to use my nair here...maybe that's the missing key (no pun intended)?
3) Any good edge-guarding tips? I know how to slow-fall the key, but are there any other options? Can you use the judgment hammer and/or chef effectively, or does edge-guarding with G&W allow for me jumping off the stage and "ensuring" them not coming back?
Thanks for the help! ^_^

dtilt and dsmash work pretty good for edguarding. That is, besides attacking him with fair in mid recovery, or just grabbing the ledge.

nair is good ledgehopped or short hopped out of shield. just remember the fish are all hitboxes. its a great combo move too, and its great when people are above you

I was playing a really god G&W today. He was mudering all my pokemon with down throw to down smash its so fast and un techable plus it dos a butt load of damage. Killed my charizard at pretty low percents.

Wow, thanks everyone! I'll go against my friend probably tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, so hopefully I can assimilate these tactics in (I can usually beat him...the matches are more or less 50-50).
About the lasers though...Wolf's lasers seem hard to catch with the bucket. G&W seems to have some start up lag, and my friend's Wolf in general uses it sparingly anyway. I actually didn't have a problem with the bucket in Melee, but now I'm having trouble in Brawl!

yeah, lately ive been just sidestepping to dsmash or dtilt. Its just tough since theres really no start up lag on his fsmash

Yeah...little startup lag, and good range too.

Here is a tip: get better, b/c you are using a high tier character. There is really no excuses for you to loss besides he was just plain o better than YOU.

lol why u talking like a douche???
well #1 theres no tiers yet so u can slow that **** down
#2 u just gotta integrate more mindgames, like u said whenever you rush at ur friend
u jump and do any aerial.. doing that everytime would make u an obvious target >.>
if anything just jump around more and avoid, and when u see and opening rush in with a dair or fair or w/e can make the hit

RoyalRook, if you have nothing of value to contribute to this topic, then please don't post here. I'm asking for help on how to GET better, so simply telling me to get better is pointless and serves nothing but a low blow. Really, what do you intend to accomplish with such derogatory remarks like that? Also, high tier characters mean nothing if skill levels are different. If my friend is just plain better than me (which seems odd to say considering I said that matches between me and my friends are 50-50 in terms of wins and losses), then why even bring up "high tier" characters in the first place? Obviously having a high tier character means nothing if the opponent is more knowledgable, has a grasp on mind games and the like, and so on. In my situation, this isn't necessarily the case. I can win matches, but there are instances where I could have won had I known different tactics and such that was told by the others here.

GW's up-b can also kill at high percents. if they're high above you, and past the edge, you can up-b to the side. Just be sure to catch the ledge.
