Changing before battle

I know with ZSS alls you gotta do is hold R or L to change to her, but I've held like every button on the contrl and I still cant change to Sheik before a match...wtf? Wasn't it "Hold A" in Melee?

Just click sheiks picture at the bottom on the character selection screen.

A large white "blob" should flash over sheiks portion of the picture.

another way to change before battle-just click on SHEIK on their icon thing on the character screen before battle. duh
