it is possible to play stock matches online right?

yeah, is there like a secret to this? as the game won't let me change settings from the character selection screen, and there doesn't seem to be an options menu to perform what i'm looking for,

can someone fill me in please?

As far as I'm aware, yes, you can play Stock matches. However, the option is only enabled in Friend matches.
