View Full Version : Is Mario weaker in Brawl?

I have heard that Mario is weaker and less usefull in Brawl. He might even be low tier. Anyways am am going to participate in the Gamestop Brawl tourtament and for the first round I would like to play as a character that was in Melee and hasn't changed much. I was planing on using Mario, but if he's not that good, I will probably use someone else.
Do you think I should stick with my original plan and use Mario or should I try to main another character in Melee to use in Brawl?

Wow, somebody lied to you. Mario is one of many characters that didn't get weaker. The fact the his throws are better, Smash attacks have better reach. Well your in the Mario boards. Just look at his strategy threads or so.

Yea you havent done much hw. I hear that everything about him fits more smoothly. The only thing lacking is the FLUDD but well find a way to own with it soon enough.

Good because I don't want to learn to play eith a new character right before the tournament.
Also I heard that his back throw was nerfed. Is this true?

Yeah, unfortunately, it was, but it looks like it can still kill people at high percents, though you'll probably have to dish out a little more damage.

you kidding, Mario is WAY better, his move are faster, he's stronger. That dudes the best, he's my main in the game.

So if luigi was the 'most buffed' with Zelda and I heard Kirby...who's the better clone? Mario or Luigi? (I know I'm in the mario boards but try to be not bias.)

mario isnt a clone....lol...he was better in ssbm and hes still better in ssbb

Mario is still my absolute favourite character, Dustero. His moves are about 80% the same as in Melee. Now he has a neat defensive water hose that pushes enemies away and (arguably) has the best final smash in all of brawl. Mario will always be it!

Sorry... but no. In comparison to other Final Smashes, Mario's is utter crap. Your opponents can DI outta the flame if you don't hit them dead on, and then they go no where, while on the other hand you have some Final Smashes that can take out multiple stock with ease.

Touché, Naota21t. I meant to write that Mario has the best LOOKING final smash in all of brawl. There's no denying the grand splendor of the red flames is there?
Worth mentioning is that if you jump up to about the midrange height of any given platform stage, it's very difficult for opponents to dodge Mario's final smash.

i felt he was improved. i REALLY like how you can be more aggressive with his fair (meteor smash) and not kill yourself.

Really? I got KOed about a couple of times playing today in Melee with the F-Air where we both went flying.

i'm not too sure what you mean... is it possible we are misunderstanding each other?
in melee, when i tried to spike my opponents off stage with mario, i would be able to spike them, but i wouldn't always be able to return. in brawl, i was able to do it with a safe recovery. there should be a video somewhere...

So far I know that Mario is a balanced character. He's a decently good character, especially since his smash attacks are quite effective in close combat. FLUDD is relatively useless, but you can do well without it anyway.
His Final Smash isn't perfect, but you might catch some foes off-guard if used correctly.
About the Mario and Luigi comparison Luigi is just so much better. His actually pretty broken in this game. His recovery is top tier, his combo game has increased, his strength is higher, and he has such a huge range of kill moves in brawl.
Luigi is way better but he is so cheap.

only way mario isnt better than he is in melee is because you cant shabawd combo the whole length of FD anymore :'(

not realy...l mario was the better in ssbm and will be the better one in ssbb..btw mario has a good range of kill moves as well...
