Alright, soo...I went to a Brawl tourney a couple days ago...so I thought I'd share what I thought of Luigi so far.

I guess I'll start off with his ground game...

I'll begin with the obvious, and say anyone who actually used wavedash proficiently with Luigi is gonna have to find alternate methods for any kind of long-distance approaching.

Here's one thing I did like about his movement though. He's faster, and doesn't slide as much. He also has much more aerial mobility and momentum, which makes me happy lol.

His f-tilt is still alright. Definately takes a hard hit due to no WD of course lol. It might come out slightly slower, too. But that also might just be my unaccustomed-ness to the game's speed in general.

His D-smash is still good from what I've seen, probably gonna have to start combos with it at much lower percents though, if anything. Unfortunately I really didn't get to use it much because I was too busy trying to use the C-stick in convential melee methods to do it, which resulted in a lot of retarded down-tilts lol. (D-tilt is still really bad lol)

His up-smash is good. I believe it's quite a bit better than his old one. But it's probably gonna be pretty hard to land consistently for KOs, because it's about as fast as his old one, and without WD it'll be a bit harder to trick people with.

I didn't use f-smash at all because of how much I didn't like it in Melee lol, but eh, ROFL says it's good so yeah.

Up-tilt...looked like it might be able to get some combo set ups, but it looks like it has some more knockback too, so yeah, basically really low percent combos onry.

Tornado seems pretty good. Didn't use it too much 'cuz I don't think it really combos into anything anymore lol, and you don't have to charge it anymore. But yeah, good for movement for sure.

Umm...up-B is freaking good lol. Though I haven't used it in the air yet. If it's near as strong as his ground version, then it'll definately be like one of Luigi's best methods for KOing and adding an extra 35% or what ever.

As for aerials..

Luigi's d-air seems to have taken a slight nerf if I'm not mistaken. It doesn't really have quite the knock-back it used to. But that also means it could be better for stringing aerial combos together, especially with how much Luigi's aerial mobility has increased. One thing you might want to take note of though, is for some strange and bizarre reason, you're forced to fast-fall the d-air after the peak of your jump. I really can't see any advantages to this change, seeing as how it only limits control of aerial movement, but hey I guess something might be possible...but probably not lol.

Forward-air seems about the same as melee, possibly a little less knock-back on it too. So basically it may seem Luigi's two main KO moves may become more combo-oriented moves this time around.

Didn't use up-air too much. Hear it's generally the same though. (Bad lol...)

His back-air is really good lol. I can definately see some potential with that thing.

Neutral-air is rape as ever, and definately one of Luigi's only for-sure combo set-ups.

Hmm...

ROFL already explained recovery, not much else to elaborate on there.

Being able to get back to the stage from so far away will probably open up a lot more ledgegaurding oppurtunities though, which is really cool lol.

One last thing I did notice at like the very last second of the tournament was crawling in general lol. I totally forgot it was in the game up until that point. It was a lot better than I thought it'd be. It's basically exactly like walking except you're low-down. Which is good for Luigi lol. I can definately see some great uses in general for it.

So the Down B recovery is easier to pull off? =D

so can luigi crawl and wall jump in brawl ?

Luigi Ka-master
02-11-2008, 06:47 PM
I don't think he can wall jump T_T, but I'm not positive.

And yeah, he can crawl like a freaking champion.

Thanks. Do you have any vids?

Not yet. Supposedly a friend is gonna upload all of my + other guys matches from the tourney, so maybe soon.

wow i never noticed he could crawl aahahah thats cool. yeah i doubt any wall jump or wall clinging.

we had pretty much same impressions except i felt like luigis fair got nerfed pretty bad.

i think im gonna get vids soon too. my first tournament set was recorded so its going to be my worst playing, but yeah in pumped to see how bad i was ahah.

Lol yeah, I didn't pay too much attention to his f-air, so you're probably right about it being fairly nerfed. I was too absorbed with trying to figure out new uses for d-air and b-air >_<.

And yeah I know what you mean about playing bad lol. I airdodge SDd in my final match in losers for like seemingly no reason at all lol. ugh XD

Ammon: Jamie couldnt figure out at 5 AM how to do it cause you had the remote, but before the work he figured out how to do it without the remote to the dvd recorder. So he's putting them up when he gets back from work.

don't forget luigi's backthrow, it's one of his best kill moves now. I also think the uair is slightly more comboable in this game. Also, use a tornado after the first aerial in a shorthop (dair-tornado or w/e) to avoid getting shieldgrabbed.

Hmm.
I can't wait to use his UP B.
Seems pretty powerful.
Does it go higher or does it have the same air as it did in the previous game?

I'm not sure about higher, but now it covers some more horizontal distance. As an attack, I've heard it's better too.

You can jump/recover after an accidental air dodge in Brawl. What happened?

XD, exactly one of the reasons that I played so bad. Any Brawl-exclusive instincts that I'd gained from playing the game for more than a minute were out the window at that point in time lol.

I patented the 'accidental air dodge SD into thrown gamecube controller' combo in melee.

Meh, I liked Luigis sliding :P but more aerial momentum is really good. I hated how you'd jump with Luigi and all of a sudden you're REALLY slow >_>

So... if you hold down and put the C-stick down too you're doing the tilt? I thought this was changed and exactly like in Melee again? >_> oh god...

Great to hear that the upB is now more useful :) Too bad he has much landing lag on it though :/ Do you think it's easier to hit now?

And what do you mean with the d-air fastfall? So you can't use it if you don't fast fall if you go down? Or will you automatically fast fall if you use it? That's really strange....

Luigi can crawl? Didn't know that, lol.

Btw: Maybe Luigi's forward air isn't that much nerfed and you just used it a few times so it got less knock back... maybe?

Yeah it's dumb lol

I dunno if it's easier to hit with. I hope it is though lol. Due to how crazy weird shield-stun is and stuff, you may be able to do it out of shield and land it a lot more often, but that's entirely speculation.

And what do you mean with the d-air fastfall? So you can't use it if you don't fast fall if you go down? Or will you automatically fast fall if you use it? That's really strange....

The latter. You automatically fast fall it if you use it, after the peak of your jump. And yeah, it is strange lol. IMO more dumb and pointless than strange, but yeah lol.

Btw: Maybe Luigi's forward air isn't that much nerfed and you just used it a few times so it got less knock back... maybe?

Mmm...possible, but unlikely. I like Luigi's down air a lot more than his forward air, so most of the time I usually use that lol. I usually only use his forward air when I feel I have to.

The only match where I do it hasn't been uploaded, but you can probably find it somewhere else by now.

Oh, and here's one of my tourney matches vs my friend's falco lol. If you want to watch the other, just know that there are final smashes on lol.

what about luigi's attacks some of them seem to have less range like his f-tilt and d-smash for example.

thanks...and umm...if you're referring to melee, I never cared about laser spam lol. I found the advantages to always outweigh the disadvantages there.

Does the SH->drill+uair->aerial thing work in Brawl?

Not quite sure what you're referring to here. You mean SH, Drill, u-tilt, aerial? If you do, and I assume you're talking about Falco, then I dunno lol. Logically though, I'd say the drill and the up-tilt will still work, but due to how fast everthing in the world recovers in Brawl, I'm pretty sure you really couldn't land an aerial on the person after the u-tilt with them being in hit stun.

what about luigi's attacks some of them seem to have less range like his f-tilt and d-smash for example.

Yeah, I think his d-smash has a little range taken off, and is also slightly slower T_T. From what I've seen of his f-tilt, only it's speed really seems to have gone down. I also think it has a little more lag afterwards, too T_T.

Actually, I was thinking, since everyone's making the Brawl-64 comparisons, I'm trying to see what Smash64 tactics/combos work in Brawl. Luigi's bread-and-butter in Smash64 was the drill+uair in one short hop->aerial (usually another drill+uair at low percents, uair chain at mid percents).

Here's the first video of it that I could get on youtube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=CUSkDukczFE

I think not all the character's have Crawling.Since now they made the game more balance, it's kind of more fair to play with a Hight tie ,I think...

On-Topic: Ka-Master. You did say that Luigi could crawl. What options and strategies did you
see in him having the ability to crawl?

Well for now I'm referring to pretty general strategies. Like, due to Luigi being 8 feet tall, staying low to the ground while still being decently mobile can be pretty effective. I just recently played again and it works great for avoiding projectiles and even some things like f-smash, especially on stages with any kind of slants.

And @ Greenblob: Oh lol, well then no, I do not believe it works. Luigi's down-air is the same as it is in Melee, excpet with less knock-back.

One more observation that I made...Luigi's up-air is good lol. It's great for comboing and even decent for KOing.
