View Full Version : Disappointed with Falcon
I've been playing Brawl for close to a week now daily, and as great as Brawl is and everything, I'm seriously upset at what has happened to Falcon.
He didn't get a whole lot of character specific nerfs (except for the knee) but all the changes to the game engine REALLY hurt him.
- sh nair goes over MANY characters heads
- dthrow bounces enemies way too high
- floatiness reduces need for ground teching. His tech chasing stomp game is gone.
- Stomp seems to come out slower. (Possibly smaller hitbox?)
- Lack of Dash dancing kills his mobility and makes spacing more difficult
I mean, he really doesn't have much anymore. I don't see him being able to keep up with the likes of T. Link, Pit, and Marth once people start getting good at Brawl.
It is a very sad day for Falcon. Let's hope Nintendo isn't opposed to the idea of balance patches in the future.

I know it sucks that his melee combos were nerfed, but we need to look at this as a new game and a new falcon. He probably has plenty of combos that we haven't figured out yet.

Poor guy. Pretty sure Falcon deserves to keep his rape combos. This is dumb T_t.

Why?! Falcon is awesome. Oh well, I'm still using him.
i like falcon on brawl, though im also dissappointed on the changes he has.
well, his Up B can kill, which is kinda cool, but...eh, I dunno.

nop this is wrong, u say hes more floaty, which characters havent gone more floaty?
who needs stomp when u have the knee?
his special b moves are useful now too, raptor boost can recover and start combos easier now with less vuneralbility, his up b goes higher and can dive edge hoggers. He's lost a little speed, but comon, he's still great.
he still has "show me your moves taunt"
not dissapointing at all if you ask me

we'll see in due time though

His best combo now is Dair --> Knee
BTW Dair doesnt even spike anymore, i tried to once and it just sent them up :(

Yeah, Falcon has almost nothing going for him in Brawl at that this point. This game is just so silly. He went from arguably one of the most exciting characters in Melee to having one of the most useless movesets in fighting game history in Brawl -- like Sakurai forgot about him until the last minute and felt he absolutely needed to be in the roster.

- Lack of Dash dancing kills his mobility and makes spacing more difficult
-you have to fastfall the sh neutral air to get it to hit
-dthrow can be followed with the flip kick consistently
you other points are pretty much spot on, HOWEVER, falcon players have to adjust to the new brawl mechanics; trying to play him like in melee wont work.

the stomp absolutely spikes still, you have to hit with his feet, otherwise they get sent horizontally
best combo is dthrow -> any aerial except for knee (and only because it's difficult to sweetspot a SH knee in brawl). or possibly dthrow to running upsmash

PS: his newfound floatiness allows him to mindgame with aerials really well

As a consistant Brawl player of falcon and the old school melee falcon. i can say only one thing
HE IS FREAKING AWESOME. He shines like he does in the old SSB days of the 64 which most of you dam kids today forgot.
The Charater floatyness makes it easier to spike with his Dair and his Knee is harder to sweetspot but it doenst matter because his Uair is back in style like Freaking Butter on Corn. You forget how good it is untill it is used again and then BOOM. Next thing you know it is a move that makes its way back into your hearts. The Knee is a finisher like it should be now and the rest of falcons skill shines.
He is overall Better then he was in melee. the only gripe i have is that he cant wavedash. but thats ok
because like a real gamer i compesate for it and
PLAY ON!!!

yah I believe that is up b has more range or at least the floatiness seems to make it look that way. He is still vulnerable to edge hogging though.
With that aside i will play him because I mean come on hes falcon.

Sigh.

What the hell are you talking about.
His uair in ssb64 was near broken.
His uair in melee was sexy for combos.
His uair in brawl doesn't ko or combo.
I know you guys don't want to dismiss him as garbage yet, "because the game has just come out", but how can people discover new combos when literally all of his moves lack the hitstun to connect with any other move?

We will find a way. We must, for he is falcon, lord of showing your moves.

You forgot:
- The knee is incredibly hard to hit now.
Jesus, of all the characters to nerf, it just HAD to be Captain Falcon, why Sakurai? WHY?!?!? Sakurai has lost all the remaining respect I had for him.

as long as we can get isai to play cf in brawl for like a week we shouldnt really have any problem, right?

dthrow -> uair says hi
and uh, the whole game is like that
Yeah, I don't know how good Falcon will end up being...
but everytime I play him I get dissapointed.
Falcon as a character should be fast and graceful... in Brawl he's slow and floaty. It goes against his character.

Yeah, I've read the same about Fox, Mario, Sheik, DK, Yoshi, Falco, Ganondorf, Jigglypuf... I don't think he got as nerfed as Peach >_<

Not sure if that's a joke or not, but Peach is still d@mned good.

I hope you are right, I haven't played Brawl ~_~

Let's not be pessimistic, all we have to do is adapt to the new movesets ^_^ I'm sure CF is still a good character.
i hope as the people find new stuff captain falcon improves.
