The Hookshot-Cancel

I made a thread in the general Brawl section but it'll probably get lost in the spam and I wanted to alert the players of the characters involved in general, which is why I'm making separate threads for the character specific sections. The mods are free to lock them if they feel them unnecessary, but I thought it important to in particular inform the people who intend to play as Lucas, Toon Link, Link and/or Samus.

I already mentioned it in a thread, but I think it's important enough to warrant its own thread.

Every single character with an Aerial Z ledge-grapping technique can cancel it! How? It's simple, simply land while doing it and the beam/hook/snake will simply disappear, leaving behind zero lag (except for the four frames of landing animation).

It's just like the Float Cancel, only, you know, without the float!

Indeed, Link, Toon Link, Samus and Lucas players should all rejoice. You're no longer wide open should you accidentally do an aerial Z. Lucas doesn't gain that much from this as the others, though, since his snake doesn't have a hitbox when performed in the air. The others' attacks do, so they could throw it out for a quick shield pressure, cancel it and then go from there.

We need a collective name for it, though. Any votes?

We've always just called it hook shot regardless of how we use it. :] I noticed this as well...too bad it only does like 3-6% or something like that, lol....but no doubt this will be a trick you want in your bag. It was even very useful in Melee, except now it cancels instantly! :]

wow nice find! i used to hit people with the hookshot once in a while as a taunt in melee but now it has a use i´m definitely gonna try it next time i play

Thanks for putting this up! I always enjoyed messing around with people with the Hookshot like this, but now that there's no lag it'll actually be great! =P Not a huge damage builder but that's not the point.

Usually I don't post on these topics, but eh...I'm bored. Here are my thoughts.

TACTIC is actually clever, but a shorter reference is more practical.

TC seems to be very good, but I seem to see them around for other use. At least when someone refer to someone as TC. Want does that TC stand for anyways.

TRC is a good one. I'll could see that one used.

One I thought could work is Short Hop Tether (SHT) based on SHL from the space animals. Although it's not necessary to short hop for the lag cancel it's understood as a cancel.

No, because Olimar and Zamus jump up slightly while doing it and then drop down. Only Link, Toon Link, Lucas and Samus can do this.
