View Full Version : Could Fox's taunt be used for a mindgame?

I saw a video of all the characters' taunts, and I noticed that Fox has a taunt where he just lights up for a few seconds, and it looks similar to the start of his Firefox. Could someone taunt to trick the opponent into thinking a Firefox is coming, and then quickly take advantage of the confusion?

Unfortunately, I don't think so. Fox says "Iku!" which means "to go" or "Lets go!" So unless fox says "Lets go!" during his firefox (Which I doubt) then you'll see it coming.

if it could be used in the air

It would be interesting if someone won a tournament by doing that. :)

i was thinking the same thing... i think it would only be useful if you firefox'd from the ground a lot.

It would only be useful if you were dumb enough to firefox on the ground and if the opponent didn't realize the completely differing pose with fox not to mention the fact that the fire in his taunt is like 4 times smaller than the actual move.

Also mindgame isn't just a retarded term to throw around ok this is why noone says it anymore.

first of all, yes, people do still talk about mindgames. They are a huge part of any fighting game, especially ssb. Secondly, do you really need to be rude to get your point across?

I am not talking about what it means I am talking about the word itself. "Mindgame" doesn't mean using a gimmick and hoping to whatever you pray to that it works.

And yes apparently I do because you clearly paid attention to it.

^ sigh. the internet breeds angry people. I didn't pay attention to you because of rudeness. I've just been looking at this thread. And as for the mindgame thing, throwing in something weird can work sometimes - being unpredictable can work to your advantage. Yes, this idea is a little gimmicky, but that doesn't mean that used very sparingly it couldn't have applications.

How is it going to mindgame effectively? You use it once, the opponent throws up his shield, ready to grab you once you reach him, but nothing happens.

What use was this? How did it affect your enemy? "Oh! You tricked me! Now I die!" No, it doesn't work like that at all.

Mindgames such as dashdancing worked because at any moment you could flee or attack head on. It's the uncertainty that has a potential give reprocussions if failed to foretell that makes effective mindgame.

A fake FireFox? Who uses that in battle? It's obvious that the enemy wouldn't be falling for the trick often at all for it to be effective.

it could stop and approach perhaps, since the "chargeup" part of firefox does some damage. Perhaps a character with short reach would retreat. I don't really know, just speculating here.

This topic brings up a good point. I will have to try against my friends. I hope it really works as a mindgame.

I have noticed this with some other taunts as well.

For instance, Marths ^smash looks like one of his taunts.

Also Lukario has one.

Ness pulls out his bat.

Doesn't Squirtle have a >B that puts him in his shell?

Metaknight has something that looks like his VB.

WTH is Zelda doing?!

The knockback on Luigi's taunt is crazy.

What the crap? Can that be used to KO?

No, it has a set knockback, and slow start-up to get to the attack frames.

Good knockback, but what matters is what you do after your opponent is in the air.

Back to the topic of Fox's Taunt, please.

A lot of characters have taunts looking like they're attacking. I suppose if the taunt was quick you could trick your opponents. But If only they were cancelleable the use of taunts would increase greatly.

The only way I can think of using it is:

1. Using Firefox alot (bad idea) use the taunt, the guy puts up his shield then you dash grab/attack him.

2. On someone w/ short range (no projectiles) Spam the taunt, then they get annoyed, run at you then you use firefox? wait, you can do that w/ anyone: annoy them and lure them into attack.

-Ground firefox isn't very useful... many way better options.

Nvm, I can't think of any real use for it, except to piss them off look badass!

Who in their right mind uses firefox as an attack? Haha
Even if they are fooled for a second they'll realise in no time and you're open for attack.
You're best bet in KOing the opponent for fox seems to be attacking them.

I hope I didnt sound too angry..
