When your opponent is of the ledge throw the boomerang the opposite direction and jump over it and if you aim right it will push your opponent back.
L = link
O = opponent
< = boomerang thrown LEFT
>= boomerang thrown RIGHT
| = death zone
________L < O |
hrmmm... interesting, could be either worthless or the greatest insta-kill edge gaurd in the game

Actually it doesn't look like it would work against characters like Sonic who have a great recovery or on Sheik and Zelda who teleport.
Everyone else though I think it would screw up since unless they have a definite wayof getting past, they could die.
However it looks like when you knock them off the edge you gotta be quick with the boomerang or they'll be able to recover.
It looks like its better at delaying their recovery and then allow youto edgeguard them rather than act as an actual edge guard move.

Crap. I thought of this ledge gaurd when Link was first confirmed to have the gale boomerang (which was waaayy back when). Ah well, great minds think alike I guess.

as cool of an idea as this is, i really doubt anyone is going to be able to pull this off effectively against many characters. but hey...doesn't mean that i'm not TOTALLY gonna try it out or anything.

Wow! Great Idea! I will sure try that when I get Brawl, but most videos i have seen, the boomerang rarely sucks them up, but ill still try.

I thinks its possible but hard. After hitting with a smash or whatever move with ko-ability you have to DONT think and just throw your boomerang fast as hell.
just speculation

The boomerang moves a tad too slow for this to an excellent edge-guard. However, it could be a good accidental interruption that the boomerang is well known for. (Just think of how many times the boomerang saved you from an attack/grab on the way back.) =P
Xdrows makes a good point though, I have very rarely seen this move really disrupt movement. It annoys more than truly controls. It will be one of those thing people will test out, no doubt.

I heard that the boomerang doesn't deal much knockback at all, very similar to the wind on Kirby's stage in Melee, I doubt it will be the deciding factor in whether or not your opponent lives or dies if you can land this, but why not just edge guard with a nair? Much more effective and easier to land.
Why not jump, throw it into the ground towards the stage, let it bounce back, and DI towards your opponent to nair.
Or SH it and then continue as usual?

what does DI mean anyways?

Directional Influence, it's when you smash the stick in a direction when getting hit to change your trajectory and help yourself recover.
Actually I misunderstood the technique in the first place.
The whole point is to get them to miss the sweetspot by pushing them away right? Unfortunately this won't work will it, because doesn't the edge 'suck you in' now? That's some rumor I heard.
You may not cause instadeath... BUT maybe you can make them come to high to STOP sweetspotting. Perhaps throwing the boomerang to pull them up into a quick forward smash, or even a spin attack?

I actually think I saw a video that demonstrated this... I remember it didn't result in a kill, but it definitely seemed feasible. I was also wondering about this too.. I'll see if I can find the vid.
