View Full Version : No Japanese voice acting?
In all of the ZSS videos I've seen her talk, the text has been in Japanese so it's obvious they're all from the JPN-version, yet the voice acting has been all in English.
A first for the Smash-franchise? A character who speaks a lot (more than just grunts and exclamanations like "Yahoo!") but who only speaks English, even in the Japanese version? For one thing, all of her taunts are in English.

It wouldn't be the first time that Nintendo has done this. After all, the Mario character voices are kept the same in the Japanese versions of the Mario games and Sin and Punishment had English voice acting.
Perhaps they see Samus as coming from an English speaking space colony. Remember, English is the official language of the future. It's true, they show it on Star Trek all the time. And I think the fact that Marth only speaks Japanese is another good point to keep in mind too...

Only because at the time when Melee was out, there was no such thing as Fire Emblem outside of Japan (unless you were one of the few to get a bootleg/import). They may or may not come to the decision to make Marth's voice english later.

"Oh My"
"Is that all?"
"Try me."
All in a very sexy manner.

oh, thanks.
I was having a tough time understanding what she said in a few of her stances.
I found the "Oh my" one kind of hard to make out, but yeah...I think I like the "Is that all?" line best. Though I prefer the spinning taunt overall...

She sounds American, Japanese don't always have to put their characters' voice acting to Japanese, like Mario is Italian.

Also, English isn't a big language barrier over there like Japan is in the US. Hell, most people know at least some English let alone the younger generations.
And it probably makes more sense to have her speak English, since she doesn't really look like she would speak Japanese. The same thing with Mario/Luigi and Cpt. Falcon.
Also, for some reason I thought she was saying "Prime" instead of "Oh my"....which makes more sense. The girl needs to annunciate.

Its going to be more of a silent game...
It's not really surprising they had her speak in English... she is tall and blond after all. Samus has always been portrayed as being Western and so making her speak English is fitting (since that's the primary 2nd language in Japan and English is from western culture).
Probably the same reason why Lucas speaks English... the Mother games are based on America. Granted those games dive heavily into science fiction, but Eagleland was always supposed to be an unhidden reference to USA.
Oh nevermind, let's just go with the simple answer.
They think English sounds cool. Its the same reason we went crazy over Marth and Roy speaking Japanese in Melee.

Peach spoke in English in Melee too.
I personally don't like her voice.
Because I can't hear what she's saying 90% of the time.

Yeah...but really I don't mind not knowing what she's saying because her taunts LOOK so freaking sweet anyway :)
Do you mean as a whole, or just Zamus? Because the Japanese Snake and Sonic sound different from the English ones, and I'd assume Ike, PKMN Trainer, and Lucario at least'll have English voices as well.

Well of course Sonic and Snake sound different. They have official voice actors in each region in their respective games.
Ike nay have his English VA from Path of Radiance, but Pokemon Trainer and Lucario are variables.
