It doesn't really take all that much to make his Up B any better, in melee it was BAD

so he can move more after an ^B?

I love how after his Up B he falls upside down.

At last it doesn't suck so much anymore

No he can't do anything after his Up+B, but at least now it has some horizontal movement to it. It still has the sweetspot version that does the huge knockup and extra damage too.

Some details on his rising tornado:

- It does not have to be "charged" like in Melee by doing it once on the ground before you can use it to rise in the air.

- Of course, you can only rise up with it once in the air until you land, a second time and you will just fall with it.

- It is MUCH easier to get full rise distance than it was in Melee. I can do it easily in Brawl, whereas in Melee I could never get his full height because I couldn't tap fast enough.

- His height from the rise is VERY dependant on his movement speed when he starts it. For example, if he is falling at full downward speed and does it, no matter how fast you tap he barely moves upwards at all, it mostly just stops his descent. However, if he is already moving upwards (like from his double jump) and you do it, he will go VERY high. So its best to double-jump and immediately do the tornado to get some sick height, then drift back to the stage and use his Up+B to sweetspot the ledge.

- The tornado is no longer 2 hits, it hits like in N64 smash - many hits that drag the opponent in. It still makes Luigi zoom across the stage horizontally too, and has that nice high priority. Overall, an already excellent move made better (and more important since its his best option for fast ground movement without wavedashing).

One nerf though - he no longer has the random misfire with his side+b, its consistant now and he never lights on fire.

However, one neat addition - while charging his side+b, once it gets fully charged it does NOT fire automatically. He can hold the charge indefinitely and then release when he feels like it. Kind of like JigglyPuff's Rollout.

His fireball is slightly different - if it hits something, it bounces off at a 90 degree angle instead of moving back in the exact opposite direction.

His other moves are all pretty much the same as in Melee (which is a good thing) - he still has his awesome killer air attacks.

But since wavedashing is out, doesn't that mean Luigi will have to...walk like everybody else? Horrible.

Are they all buddies or something? How did they make it 3 min and not just 2 minutes?

Luigi's new moves look great! I'm relieved that they made his flaming shoryuken the powerhouse it was in smash 64. His recovery looks nicely improved. The bullet looks great, and now he can grab ledge from any direction.

I wave dash a good amount with His Weejness but I'm not sad to see it go. I'm glad the fight has slowed back toward a 64 pace a lil bit.

I do have one question..

Does his tornado move cover as much horizontal distance? I found it to be a very versatile move, especially in 4 man fights.

Actually, in Smash64, the Luigi cyclone was a one hit finisher, not a combo move.

When you say hit something, does that include characters.
If not, lol trick-shots.

I meant when the fireball hits terrain, not enemies. Maybe when blocked though.

Oh, and my mistake on Luigi's cyclone in 64 - I must have been thinking of Mario's?

Okay, another question about the fireball.

It still hangs in midair, right? If say it hit a midair platform or smoething and was sent from that 90 degree angle would it still retain the gravity?

Side B also gets stuck in a wall dart-style :)

Then he plucks himself from the wall but I don't know much else about it

I'm not sure I follow you. For one thing, Luigi's fireballs defy gravity.

The fireball is shot and flies forward in a perfectly straight line. If it hits a wall, it bounces and flies either straight up or straight down (in Melee it would fly straight backwards). If it hits a ceiling/floor at that point, it bounces again and flies straight left or right. It does this until its life time runs out and it disappears.

Overall though, like in Melee, its one of the worst/useless projectiles in the game, so I wouldn't worry about it much. Luigi's fireball has always had limited usefulness but he doesn't really depend on it for much. If it has some other new property that makes it awesome now, I don't know what it is yet because I honestly didn't use it much (out of habit from Melee I suppose).

LOL! really? Is there a video? EDIT: Just saw the video in a other thread ^^

Luigi has indeed made some very nice improvements!

*upB can now go horizontal too! (a little, and only after he has reached his max height)
*downB is the ultimate recovery now! It's really fast and Luigi can go really high with this one
*running A: The last hit sends enemies away now, yay! Now it's not a bad move anymore :D

Too bad his down smash was nerfed in range, but otherwise he looks fantastic!

You can always use the fireball to counter those players who like to spam projectiles at you, so it'll cancel them out. :dizzy:

I like how the fireballs go faster. They've been promoted from complete crap to regular crap.

I don't understand why the Bros fireballs have such a short life span. They should have been chargeable like Samus' projectile, obviously not as strong as that, but atleast a bit of a power up in terms of distance and size.

Does anyone know if Luigi still has his high priority on attacks?

Gea
02-08-2008, 04:44 AM
Pretty sure it was nerfed a tiny bit but he's still win because of how the attacks come out and work.

Also fireballs are NOT worthless, they chain combos and pressure MUCH better now.
