I came across a theory of why R.O.B. was included. If it's already been posted, sorry about this, but I found it interesting and wanted to share.

R.O.B. was marketed along with the NES after the video game crash of 1984. This was to supplement the console (as a toy), since retailers were weary of selling it. Partly because of R.O.B., then, retailers agreed to stock the NES and Nintendo hit it big. Without R.O.B., who knows what would have happened. Thus, he is important the company's history and this might account for his inclusion in Brawl.

He's barely even a video game character, let alone one that should have been considered as a playable fighter. He was a plastic robot that reacted to 2...TWO games that were virtually unknown. The main thing to remember here is that he has literally NO fan following. I don't think I saw a single person say they hoped he was in Brawl, let alone welcome his inclusion.

I am not sad because I can't help but think about possible movesets and how this character works so I'm not the least disappointed. Also if he's a good character I'll main him(as one of my "second choice" mains)

ROB is not the problem. Because he is in the roster, people automatically think that stupid 35-character roster is 100% true. Well, prophizise my hinder, because that guy wasn't the only person to think of ROB!

Because many think that the roster is very limited now, they're venting on ROB, since he is, unconsciously to them, the reason for their upset.

I welcome his inclusion. I think hes sort of spiffy, ya know?

I was kind of disappointed with the choices of WW Link and Wolf though... they could've used whatever time they spent on them to include a new franchise.

EDIT: You know, I even like Lucario less than ROB. I mean, Lucario, seriously? Not Mewtwo? Come on, people! Mewtwo is like, the ultimate badass of Pokemon.

After watching some game play of him ( LASERS FTW! ) I am quite happy with his addition!

He's up there with G&W being pretty unknown and disliked till added into Smash.

You guys did this to G&W too so bleah you you youngins! RESPECT YOUR FREAKING PAST!

I thought we all still thought Game and Watch was stupid, too. I still groan when people pick him.

I have a lot of respect for people who pick up G&W and provide a competitive game experience with him. On my better days I do the same. G&W is an interesting spin to the Smash world and as such offers unique competition. I personally love him, and I can only hope R.O.B. offers a new stylistic gameplay to quench my thirst for diversity in the flow of the game. Wooty Mcwootens.

History: Grabbing sodas off a table then dropping them, scaring cats, bumping into furniture.

Look, i don't want to flame, but I hate seeing posts like this -_- Even though he has little to no fan following, I love this little robot. He/She/It is one of the reasons we have videogaming today, and even if you didn't see it I know some people who wanted R.O.B in Brawl more than Krystal or Geno. R.O.B is one of the only newcomers I'm excited about, so I have this to say- Robotic Operating Buddy for the win!!!
