View Full Version : Don't blame ROB, he stole no spot! (opinion)

At least, that's my opinion. Consider this:
ROB is a joke character. If anyone has seen gameplay videos of him, he appears to have a very limited range of motion, meaning very simple moves and animations. Therefore, he would take a very short amount of time to implement in the game. In addition, R.O.B.s are already SSE enemies. That means that they already have models, limited moves, and limited animations. They are partially implemented already, so it wouldn't take too much time and effort to implement him as a fully playable character, compared to the effort required for a brand new character, or even a partial clone. Therefore, it is my belief that the development team put a little extra effort into making R.O.B. a playable character, but this "little extra effort" would not be enough to implement any new character, so he didn't take anyone's spot on the roster.
I may be right about this, and I may be wrong, but thinking about it this way makes R.O.B.'s inclusion much more tolerable for me.

Nah, people are just mad about him because he was the ultimate proof that the 35 character roster is real. And the people are mad about the ROSTER, not really about ROB.

Theres a difference between a "joke char" and a "wtf" character. Pichu is a joke char because he is tiny and hurts himself with all his thunder moves. He was made to be the weakest char (comehow surpassing Mew2).
We don't know ho much time it took to make ROB. . . in fact, it could have been a bit longer than norm just to make his animations look reasonable and not overly odd.

I'm not MAD at R.O.B., perse. I'm not happy, I'm indifferent. I like he'll be an original character with an original moveset. I like that a lot actually. I just feel...I dunno. Blah. The game will rock the world and murder all, but it could've rocked the world, murdered all and conquered the universe, y'know?

I'm excited about ROB. He's new and different. Everyone's talking crap about him before they've even played him. I don't see a problem with him being in the game. And if you don't like him so much, just don't select him at the character select screen..... simple.

I just think there's classics that deserve the spot more then R.O.B.
Think about it... Most characters have some time of cult following (I know a few people other then myself who have Game and Watch Key Chains. The man was a precursor to Game Boy. I'm not sure, but wasn't Gunpie behind Game and Watch and Game Boy?) or a mainstream following (Mario, Link, Sonic...)
Plus, he debuted as a useless peripheral for two not-so-good games.
Now I know this may be hard for some, but try to think....
Example: Super Scope is a peripheral for SNES, it's an item. ROB's a periph for NES, why not make IT an assist trophy?
See my point? If Isaac's an AT, Lyn's a AT, Little Mac's a AT, and Advance Wars got a AT...
HOW THE HELL DID THEY GET BEAT BY A PERIPHERAL!?
Sides that, I like the roster. I would have liked everyone to return but whatever...
The more characters the better in my book. Least Namco listens to that philosophy.

think about it like this, nintendo is mostly known for their success, but they can't really ignore their failures... everyone knows of rob, and no one may forget the virtual boy
also i don't remember who it was, but i think someone suspected Rob = ancient minister, and even provided their "theory/picture"-- wonder if he thought he'd be right lol

ROB is a "wtf" character, meaning noone forsaw his inclusion, a bit like G&W in Melee.
A joke character is one like Pichu, who was utterly worthless, and hurt himself when he attacked.

When I heard there was no Geno I was a little upset. But then when I heard ROB was in the game, I was like "OMG! MY NEW CHARACTER!" I'm really happy about ROB. I've seen a little game play and his moves, he looks like he's gonna be really fun. I like robot characters anyways, like Robo Ky, Sentinel, etc in other games, so ROB is perfect for me.

In all honesty, I would take ROB over Geno anyday.
I did really want geno in the game but i suppose if rob is good ill be ok, but i just dont understand why they would take GENO out hes a friggin puppet comon
The fact that he got over Krystal, Ridley, Geno, Isaac, K. Rool etc. is just absurd. I really don't get it. Yeah, he is a cool character. Yeah, I played him and kicked *** with him but... you know, he'd be a lot better off to just stay an enemy.
I don't dislike R.O.B..
I just dislike the idea that he got in over shoo-in characters that a majority of fans actually wanted.

If anything, Wolf stole the spot, not ROB.
Does anybody else really think Ridley should have been there and not Wolf? At least Ridley wouldn't be another clone...

when I first saw ROB in MKDS I was like "ZOMG!! A ROBOT!!" then from that day I researched about him and became a ROB fan. I remember that I would think "it would be awesome to see ROB in the new smash bros game..."
then when I saw the video with the ROBs and the bomb I was like, "WHOAH!! I WAS RIGHT!! CAMEO FTW!!!"
you can simply imagine how exited I was when I saw he was in the roster... XD
the only disappointments I had from the roster were Krystal and Geno not being in the game...and Pichu...but I knew he wasn't going to make it anyways... but Krystal had potential; I believe Krystal should have been in the game instead of Wolf for 2 reasons:
Wolf would have to be a clone
the game needed more female characters
Geno, well he's another story...it was obvious the he had to be in if Snake and Sonic were in...and if the Geno/Square rumor is true, I'm never buying a game from Square again (the only ones I bought were SMRPG and Mario Hoops)
and just when I thought I could trust Square...

Frankly, I was more shocked to see R.O.B. get in before Megaman than Geno. I have no clue why...

R.O.B. is the oldest character in smash YET! He was one of Nintendo's two only video gaming mascots, and the first. The latter was some fat red overall wearing mustache plummber. Wonder who that is! :laugh:
Seriously, he deserves his spot. It's just too bad more characters couldn't have joined him, newcomers and veterans alike! :(
