Question about Final Smash

I know this sounds kind of noob, but will Kirby still get items from his Final Smash when you turn items on? It would kind of ruin the Final Smash if you didn't get items though.

But didn't the demos have items turned on? The question I was asking was what would happen if items were off.

I'm guessing you would get items anyway. Sakurai wouldn't just waste a FS like that.
