How many of you wanted sonic in because of melee april fools?

I'm actually not so psyched about sonic anymore...but when the confirmation came out, my friends and i thought 'omfg finally'. back in the melee days, we wanted sonic and tails so badly ever since that april fools egm. You know the two random-select spots in the bottom left and bottom right corners? egm photoshopped in sonic and tails selection boxes. I dont remember the unlock conditions exactly, but they said it was some unbearable amount of kills in cruel melee.

its not the sakurai poll or the sonic/mario rivalry that got sonic into brawl. it was egm and their april fools joke!

I never cared so much for Sonic, but when I saw him on the DOJO and saw how fast he was, that totaly changed my speculation on him, and now I'm really looking forward to playing as him.

Nope - I hadn't even heard of that until long after I got the idea that he could be in. Frankly, I doubt that April Fool's joke really meant anything. Sonic is a big-name character, and his old rivalry with Mario is something everyone who grew up in the SNES/Genesis era remembers. His demand for SSB was as predictable as any third-party character's could possibly be. If anything, that April Fools joke just shows that the basic desire was already there in plenty of fans, and the people who came up with it knew they'd get a reaction by doing the joke.

wanted him to be included.

I wanted him in since I bought SA2B, which was well after melee. I don't think the hoax was the main reason why, but it definitely contributed to it.

i was a HUGE Sonic fan as a kid so i wanted him in melee even though i didnt think it was possible. when the joke came out though i spent so much time getting those 20 kills, only to be dissapointed.

Yeah, I didn't even know about that sonic april fools joke until you said it..................

But the idea has been in my mind since the original super smash bros, But I never thought I'd see that day until SEGA had become the poor company it has become :(

I'm looking forward to playing Sonic because of his speed and his spin dash attacks, I didn't even know about this april fools joke so it is definetly not the reason for me. And I got the idea long ago through the help of animations like sonic vs mario battles on newgrounds. Sure the animations where god forsaken bad many times.

But the idea was gold, and now sakurai struck the vein.

I was actually wanting Sonic in Brawl after Mario and Sonic at the olympics was announced. After all that waiting time, they'd put Mario and Sonic in a fight like the 100 meter sprint and swimming!?! I don't know what SEGA and Nintendo were thinking when they slowed Sonic down from 753 miles a hour to about 30(max) miles a hour.

From there I was hoping Sonic would be Brawl. It would be the only fair fight chance for Mario and Sonic, and guess I'd like to see Sonic in that game anyways. I kind of care more about Sonic as character than the Sonic VS Mario thing, though.

Then once I heard Snake came in and The Seven Rings for Wii was out, I was thinking Sonic HAD, JUST HAD to be on Brawl.

And he is. I let out a huge "HOLY ****!!!!!!!!!" in a public place when I was told. Saw him on Dojo...and my jaw DROPPED :DDDD
