View Full Version : Sonic's fingerwave out? Not so.

Everything in red=disproven by dojo update.

Now, this is speculation, but it isn't baseless. W all know sonic's classic, level clear finger wave found in the old sonic the hedgehog games when you beat a level, and I was dissapointed to not see it as one of his taunts. But here(ignore the soundtrack, it was the only one I could find off hand)http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5091381443482331438&q=Subspace+emissionary&total=6&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0 At roughly 1:30 mario beats Kirby and seemingly takes off his hat and if he defeated kirby, as a "level clear" stance.

Now, I think Sonic's "level clear" stance would be that classic finger wave we all know and love.

Discuss.

Oh NoEZ! my theory is disproven.

WHY SAKURI!? WHY?

Perhaps he does the wave as a victory stance. I'd be disappoined if they only had taunts and stances from the newer games.

You're kidding! He doesn't do that? Excuse while I go cry...

No but seriously it is a pretty big Sonic thing.... It better be some sort of pose

He does the finger wave in his his intro movie when he says "Sonic's my name, speed's my game." I'm pretty sure it'll find it's place among his taunts :p

If you guys would READ the E- for all reports on sonic, he doesn't (in the demo) have a taunt where he waves his finger. And besides, in the video, that's a thumbs up.

And besides, in the video, that's a thumbs up.Kriven's referring to Sonic at the very end of the video, where he wags his finder before running off screen. I think the point he's trying to make is that Sakurai and his team clearly know of Sonic's signature finger wave, otherwise they wouldn't have included it in the intro video. If they know of it, then it makes little sense not to include it SOMEHOW. Whether it's through a "level clear" (which I do think is a good, plausible idea) or some other means, I'm sure it'll be in.

Thanks for clearing that up. Somehow, I always respect your posts circus. You make it in a clam, non-flamestarting manner.

And sorry Kriven, I lost my temper a little bit there. I sould have asked "what do you mean?" or" where did you see it" instead of taking it out on you guys.:(

The confusion is understandable since he mentioned the "Sonic's the name, speed's my game" line, and at that point in the video, Sonic does do the thumbs up. Just a miscommunication is all.

No problem dude, I screwed up which part of the video the finger-wag is in so we're both at fault :p

he does the finger wave at the end of the video though, then runs off screen.

Though he looks so weird when he does it at the end.

But that's sad no finger wave, hopefully it'll still be there for his victory.

Just like the balancing and tapping the foot it is worthy and recognisable as one of Sonic main traits and should not be ignored.

Sonic's signature move? Of course it matters. That's like Mario not having fireballs. It's a signature move/taunt that the character is known for.

It's just a taunt lols

So? It's still a signature of the series, though I would prefer a taunt where he looks at the screen (the player) and taps his foot.

It's not quite the same as Mario without fireballs, it's more like representing Kirby without having his signature dance, or (essentially) many of the characters without their trademark entrances. For a game that prides itself on representing franchises and characters completely, this is very important.

Remember that what's unimportant to you may be important to someone else.

does that finger wave do any damage?no it doesnt and besides his signature thingie is when he turns to a ball simple as that. -_- you guys always have to have everything your way or you complain over it...and its a taunt....

There are definitely more signature-ish things to Sonic than the fingerwave, however cool it may be. Sakurai's already recognized that it exists. It doesn't have any utilitarian purpose, so it doesn't need to be part of his moveset. As far as I'm concerned, that's good enough for me.

Considering how much Sonic has been "misinterpreted" in recent games, it's not that surprising that Sonic fans would care about details like this.

Me included, mind you. I hope he does this pose after he wins or something cool like that. However, if he doesn't... and Sonic continues to be further and further corrupted... then there is nothing left for us classic Sonic fans than to weep and mourn the passing of the dead franchise.

Well, maybe that's being a little too dramatic. I've just been of the opinion that some wretched evil had it's malevolent fingers wrapped around the throat of the SEGA, and if Sonic were ever released from that horrific grasp then he might be able to relive the days of his former glory. Even if it were only for one game, it would still be awesome.

So I hope that Sakurai goes with the classic Sonic instead of this crazy mixed up imposter hedgehog. Shadow was right to call this guy a faker! *fistshake*

i think the classic fingerwave would be an excellent taunt

each character has 3 taunts one is sonic runs so fast he makes the figure 8 in place of his feet and looks at you another is the thing he does where he crosses his arms and i dont know the 3rd the mario taking off the hat thing is probably one of his taunts

We never said we HAD to have it are way, I was just speculating, and if you read the E for all reports, it is not a taunt.
Up taunt: does a flip in the air, seen in the opening video.
Normal taunt:Does a figure 8 with his legs.
Down taunt: breakdancing.

Kudos to Code black and Paingel, for bringing it up in a calm manner.

The two adventure games were decent, but I'd agree with you otherwise.

Anyways, the finger wave is an essential part of Sonic's character. It's a reflection of his 90's 'tude which is indisputably Sonic's golden years, heyday, or what have you. It'd be a shame not to include it.

Well, in the newest update (which all in all was kind of a letdown, given that it was semi-confirmed already), they show that Sonic at least has his other signature taunt of looking at the screen and yelling at the player, though it's kind of different from the games

I would prefer a taunt where he looks at the screen (the player) and taps his foot.

In actuality, it works best as an idle animation, because Sonic would get impatient if you(the player) did not do anything.

That's what the foot tapping and looking at the screen would be for. In all actuality, they just made up taunts that fit Sonic's personality.

LCHSGoBigRed

That would be pretty funny. Just standing there, and then he begins to tap his foot just like in the old games. The fingerwave would also be nice if that was his stance after he wins a match in Multiplayer.

i would so much rather have that be his idle animation, and it probably is.

and who said the finger wave was not a taunt? it's obviously in the game.

That would be everyone who went to E4All. Not ten posts above you, you can see the list of taunts that Sonic can do mid-fight. Breakdance, run-in-place and one of his many poses from the Adventure Series.

It is, however, obviously in the game, or at least in a trailer for the game. That may be some kind of victory pose, or perhaps a 'level clear' pose of some kind. But it's not a mid-fight taunt, unless they make some changes to his animations by febuary.

Personally, I really hope so, and I thought Sakuri might go along with the old schoolness.
but no, maybe the 16 bit days are truly over.:(

If the ol' fingerwave isn't in as a taunt it will likely make it in as a victory pose. I really wouldn't worry about it.
