Sweet Zombie Jesus, this is one heck of an update Sakurai! The week kicks off with one of the bigest bangs ever unleashed. Brawl has the potential to far outlive Melee now as <em>Custom Stages</em> <del datetime="2007-10-29T07:33:14+00:00">take to</del> become the field!

There’s so much customization available it’s almost shocking. Well not almost, it is! I mean- I should probably calm down. Anyway, at the start you pick your size of the stage, from close quarters such as Yoshi’s Story in Melee to giant mega-city size, like New Pork City. You then pick your background, and what music you want for the background. Note: Music choices are limited to the CD’s you’ve managed to collect.

Now to the actual Stage development. Sakurai reminds us that controls are diferent for diferent controllers (Wiimote might be the best if it can be used as a pointer for this) Anyway, you pick your parts from the right, and place them in the field.

The things you can do are:
<blockquote>Flip parts left to right
Enlarge or shrink parts
Zoom in or out on the screen
Swap palettes
Erase

Then you can, of course, try it out.

When you’re done you can save it, both to your Wii and an SD card, and change the music if you so wish. Also if you have BOTH someone’s Wii Number and Smash Number you can then send the stage to them. Sweet!

Oh but wait, there’s more! I think it’s best to let Sakurai explain this.
<blockquote>Now, for those who hate putting effort into such things, we’ve also prepared something you can enjoy as well.
“Submit” …?
That’s right! You can use your Wi-Fi connection to send stages you’ve made to Nintendo! (However, you can’t submit repeatedly. Maybe just once per day?)
And a stage selected from the entire daily collection will be sent from Nintendo to your Wii. A stage made by someone else will come to you over the Internet once per day!
DUN DUN DUNNNNNN! That’s the shocking truth. This means you’ll be able to experience a new stage every day—the flavor of the day, if you will. However, the plan is for that stage to vanish once one day has passed. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime encounter.</blockquote>

More than likely you’ll have the option to save the stage that randomly appears if you like it. The only real downside is expect to get the odd stage based on genetalia, but Nintendo could be checking the ones submitted, so I doubt you’ll be seeing many, if any “adult” stages.
Of course this opens up a wide range of posibilities! Will we get any stages made by Nintendo on rare/special occasions? And of course, this is what many people will be using to back up their claims that new characters could be downloaded, or even custom characters. Sorry guys, stages are one thing, but characters are about 5 levels up.
