The DOJO revealed something kirbykid has made some suggestions on about how to customize this game in a way and I think kirbykid got his wish. You can actually make your own stages!
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/various10_071029a-l.jpg" alt="New Stage?" align="middle" border="0" height="315" width="400" /><!--more--></p>
<p align="left">It is really good to see Sakurai is not holding back on this game. He is really giving us the chance to make stages which could be viable for both the creative players and tournament players. I am definitely going to be putting several hours into this so you best expect to see me and many others having a discussions purely for submitting new stage designs.</p>
<p align="left">Here is a small break down of the setup for making a stage:</p>
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/various10_071029b-l.jpg" alt="Initialization" align="middle" border="0" height="315" width="400" /></p>
<p align="center">First you start off by picking the size, background and music to go into your stage.</p>
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/various10_071029c-l.jpg" alt="Edit Screen" align="middle" border="0" height="315" width="400" /></p>
<p align="center">Here you can design the platforms, structures, ladders and various other features to set for your stage.</p>
Controls vary, but it pretty much goes like this:
<ul>
<li>Flip parts left to right</li>
<li>Enlarge or shrink parts</li>
<li>Zoom in or out on the screen</li>
<li>Swap palettes</li>
<li>Erase</li>
</ul>
…Among other things.

It appears that putting the stage together is similar to putting together something in SimCity in which you just drag the length you need for a particular item such as the ladder.
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/various10_071029d-l.jpg" alt="Editing" align="middle" border="0" height="315" width="400" /></p>
<p align="center">And you always have plenty of time to test your stages out while editing.</p>
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/various10_071029e-l.jpg" alt="Testing, 1, 2, 3..." align="middle" border="0" height="315" width="400" /></p>
<p align="center">Based on the pictures the pictures from the DOJO we can definitely expect to have some really interesting stages.</p>
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/various10_071029f-l.jpg" alt="Neato!" align="middle" border="0" height="315" width="400" /></p>
<p align="center">You can also leave a comment about your stage, most likely to give people an idea of what kind of stage you were going for.</p>
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/various10_071029g-l.jpg" alt="Comment!" align="middle" border="0" height="315" width="400" /></p>
<p align="center">Sakurai also mentions that size shouldn’t matter because you can save the stages to your SD card. This can lead to limitless possibilities for stages. No longer will we be limited soley by the stages the designers have decided for us.</p>
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/various10_071029h-l.jpg" alt="Stage Builder!" align="middle" border="0" height="315" width="400" /></p>
<p align="center">You can not only use Wi-Fi to send stages to your friends but you can also send stages to Nintendo which will most likely be available to send once a day based on Sakurai’s wording in the DOJO. This feature will also allow you to send snapshots of the stages you’ve done. The potential for this alone is staggering because it allows for such much customization, on a level I think some of us weren’t even expecting.</p>
<p align="center"><img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/various10_071029i-l.jpg" alt="Oooh... today's stage has a lot of traps..." align="middle" border="0" height="315" width="400" /></p>
<p align="center">Sakurai does caution us that the plans for this may change as it goes through development, but the overall setup he has explained on the DOJO is a best case scenario.</p>

When I first read the update title as stage builder I was a bit meh, pretty cool but not so much.

As I kept reading it just started sounding more and more awesome. This looks to be a great feature.

(Also, anyone else liking the strange, half translated humour in these recent updates? )

0.0 Holy God.

Amazing...

And for SD cards..he said we can store as much as we want?

I'm wondering how the custom stages will work online..all though he did mention about submissions online..but they disappear within a one time play.

I find that to be awesome..for it will give us a lot to look forward to in the stage department.

Best. Update. Ever. Better than online, better than any character update, better than ANYTHING. This game has just grown from "extremely long life" to "utterly endless".

My hat is off to you, HAL.

I'm now imagining people sharing the blueprints of tourney-valid selfmade stages to have new places to fight in... seriously, this is just awesome.

Smash Bros was fun. Melee was deep. Now Nintendo's little franchise fighter might challenge as the best game of all time.

Well Sakurai just blew my mind with the awesomeness of this game. If these sort of updates are still coming a few months off, I can't imagine what he'll be revealing right up near release :psycho:

I thought it was late if anything, although I'm in Australia so it may be different. I think it's because of daylight savings, so yeah. It was an hour after the time it normally is, atleast in my timezone.

*Facepalm*

Oh yes.. I forgot about Daylight Savings..

Aw well, atleast that means it updates at 7 now instead of 8. :)

You know they have a forum for stages right?

http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=123182

That's a link to the same thread but in the correct forum, I figure we might as well have all opinions and speculation in one thread rather then the two.

That's what She Said.... ;)

Anyways...this game is being developed by HAL,and this "the Studio", as well as SEGA, the Sonic Team, Koonami, Kojima Productions, APE, Game Freak, Monster, the Pokémon Company, and probably CERO, Retro Studios, Sora Ltd., and a few other companies, as well as the other seemingly likely 3rd party developer. :)

It's the 'Remaining Parts'. Probably so you won't overload your map.

Edit: Exactly what I thought http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/various/images/various10/various10_071029d-l.jpg Looks like you can only have a set amount things for the map, so it won't cause problems.

Just remember that the limit for the Wii is 2gb SD Cards. Can't read bigger ones, so don't buy above 2gb, lol.

I need to go buy one as well.

Hahah, Ninten...

Anyway, this is one of the best updates to date, dating back to the dates we got dated updates.

(dated updates are updates we already knew were going to be in the game, i.e. Peach's FS.)

I'm already making a stage on paper, I want to be ready to make stages that are crazy, walljumping attacks and recovers will be necessary. You will have to crawl under something to get to your opponent, whilst risking a stock to get to him/her. The ideas are endless.

50+ may be overdoing it.

Why? More variety, more characters, the more the merrier. I don't see why they just don't throw in everything they can. Anyways, *Nintendo bash ahead* it's Nintendo, so that'll never happen anyway.
