I went to E4, and I thought Ike was awesome. He has incredibly strong hitting charges, and his specials are pretty good. What are your impressions on Ike?

According to the reviews, I think that Ike will be sort of like Ganondorf, with a sword, with the exception of him having a bad recovery.
Anyways, Ike will be a good character, let's just try not to get him out of the field.

Gimpy actually just posted not long ago saying Ike is NOTHING like Ganon. Even if Ike is supposedly "garbage," I could really care less. I'll play with him still, and I'll do the best I can.

That's exactly what I think.
Maybe, just possibly, if he doesn't suit my style, then I'll try to switch to another character, but I think that Ike will definitely be good in the hands of a skilled player. As long as you know how to use him, I believe Ike will be one of the best characters in Brawl.
(And, he looks pretty cool too. :chuckle:)

My impressions are...what are impressions again?
Lol. Anyways, Ike is slow...but powerful as hell!
I'll use him, despise his bad recovery and speed.

Haha, yea. I'll definitely be playing more than one character in this game and I already get the feeling. The feeling that Ike will be an EXTREME BEAST in doubles. Ouch.

imagine, an ike+meta team. HAX. Combos+killing power.

I'm thinking he probably won't be my main, since I tend to prefer speedy characters (mained Captain Falcon in the original and Marth in Melee, looking at probably Sonic, Pit, or Marth again in Brawl), but he'll definitely be a secondary character for me. In addition to my love for Fire Emblem, some of those attacks and the killing power he has is just too awesome not to use. I still can't believe that up smash of his - a 270 degree arc that does that much damage with little lag is amazing, especially if it has good killing knockback. You could probably just spam that and beat any computer opponent, and it'll be top-notch at finishing human ones to boot.

I can feel it too...
It feels so great, doesn't it?
My friends and I are always playing this game in doubles. This will be fun.
An Ike + Meta Team sounds deadly.

Trust me, I'd rather he had a different one too - I still think my idea where he calls up the Greil Mercenaries for reinforcements would have been great - but thats not a good reason to hate a character or a series. Especially when the final smash is so generic to begin with - a long sword combo followed by a single stroke with a lot of force, big deal.

I want to play as Ike. they say he sucks, but I have a feeling he's a character that needs a little time. Once some practice has been done, Ill bet he's top tier. He looks INSANELY powerful.

I never think he'll be top tier, but he doesn't deserve to be a bottom tier either.
It's not common to have such an intense strain of slow and powerful in a fighting game. This is a first for Smash Bros anyway.

I have seen some Ike fights and yeah even when he is slow... he also has some otrher moves to mix it. Link was slow but he does not has Ike´s counter. We all know how that counter helped marth before. And Ike´s counter kill BTW.
Im very sure he has some potentia to explore but there is something that could potentially **** him.......his recover,... i mean is ridiculously bad...worse than Roy´sThey REALLY need to give him some horizontal distance!

If Ike has the Marth spike it will just be a slaughter.

Unfortunately it seems Ike's f+b is like Falcon's...I was hoping it'd be more like Luigi's.

His recovery is then pretty bad.
Thats just wrong.

I still don't see why people say Ike's recovery is bad. You just need to come from below.
Considering he throws the sword up and then catches it, if you have good timing it'll be impossible for anyone who doesn't have good range to edge guard Ike. His recovery is fine in my opinion. I'll perhaps draw some comparison chart based on the videos I've seen.
As for his Final Smash, I have no problem with it being like Link's. I was actually hoping for a double sword wave, but this is fine. They're going to have to make 35+ Final Smashes. It gets to the point where it's hard to be creative.
As for my position with Ike, I hope he will be my main character. I play an advanced Roy (which is rare on the competitive scene) in melee, so I'm very used to a power hitter. I also hope to play the second Fire Emblem rep since it's my favourite video game series. If Ike is too popular, I'll probably play Kirby or Pit if people end up not liking him.

My main fear, I guess, about Ike's recovery is that when he's too far out and can't use Aether back on, his only option is charging his f+b, which is going to be clearly countable(I'd assume). Either way, this is only a demo, and there were PLENTY of characters in Melee with predictable recoveries, XD.

I think he looks alot faster than people make him out to be. Just from watching videos you can tell he's at least faster than bowser. I'm thinking slower than Link but faster than ganondorf.
Alot of people said that Roy was really slow compared to marth, but I managed to find a way to keep up with him, and people whine non stop about how powerful Roy is. I can't imagine what it's gonna be like once I practice with Ike and find a way around his speed.
The only thing I'm concerned about is recovery. I have never even seen him recover succesfully with Aether, does anyone have a refrence as to when it actually works? cus at the moment I'm skeptical as to whether or not it's even a recovery move.
I love his Final Smash! after hearing rumors of an electric floating ball like Pikachu's volt tackle this was a great relief, I wanna know it's real name though.

As ghetto as it sounds, "Buck *** Aether" kinda' came into mind, XDDD. As for his recovering with Aether, I think I saw it done once in a video.

To sum it up, almost everytime they fail they either do it too early or too late.
Smashers are used to coming at angle unless they make a last attempt with Luigi's recovery. Because of that, people playing the demo will have a hard time landing Ike's recovery until they play him for a bit. When they do aim it right, it's pretty fast and effective, especially considering he can't get meteor smashed while doing so.

The thing about Aether is: if the opponent times an edgegrab just before he throws the sword and then does a roll, he'll be unable to grab the ledge, because he really doesn't stay up with the sword for long. Considering that a character can ledgehog much easier now, and that Aether has a short startup time, he's going to be easier to edgehog than people are thinking. His recovery truly is bad.

Well, he moves forward a bit when he's coming down so he could land on the edge. :/

ike is so much slower than you who haven't played the game could possibly realize, the only hits he was landing were from people running into his moves after he'd already started them. sure he's super strong, but he has NO speed at ALL. he isn't ganon, ganon has some quick moves and can move quickly, ike is just slow slow slow.
SO MUCH SLOWER THAN YOU WILL EXPECT IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED THE GAME.
hopefully he gets a nice healthy buff before the release! n_n

Ike will be a character with nothing but a super strong counter. This counter alone will make him High-mid. Counter, Counter, Counter! Take it like a man and counter!

I hate Ike and Fire Emblem (because Ike stole Link's final smash!!!)
I hate Sonic because he stole Pikachu's Final Smash.
Seriously dude =P.
If Ike's Final Smash was been revealed before Link's than Link would have stolen it from Ike so. Don't know why you are whining but okay (No offence or something)
Well my first impression of Ike is:
SSS(Slow,SuperStrong =D)
I think with good training he can be good. And even if his recovery fails. You can always find something to help him. I think when you play with him, train with him. You can be very good.
I was thinking about something.
Give Ike a Tether Recovery. He throws his sword above, and get's stuck in the wall or ledge.
And it's a demo so there can be HUGE changes when the game comes out ;)

Lol, I was gonna' try and compare Potemkin and Ike(I KNOW! TOTALLY DIFFERENT GAMES) but I forgot. Potemkin has some fast moves. XP I don't know for MYSELF how slow Ike is when playing him, and if that's the case, I'll just imagine him the slowest thing on the planet, and hopefully when I play he'll be a little faster than I imagined.

If its so slow, i think Ike will a character that just stands on the stage waiting the right moment to attack. Projectiles may be a problem, thought.

His recovery is actually quite bad, it's nearly the exact same as Kirby's Final Cutter, I'm really disappointed in it. Ike is actually comparably fast, he isn't the same as Marth or Roy, but his strength really makes up for the lack of speed. As for his final smash, he is really powerful, and can kill multiple foes with just one.
Ike may be slow, however his tilt attacks doesn't seem that laggy and have a good range with no flinch thing. Aether is an anti air move. Then you have counter too... I think people isn't looking at the whole picture.
He has more range (now range is even more fearsome in Brawl since wavedash is out) than the average heavy weight, who tend to be close combat chracters. He also has power (something to point is that Brawl is "weaker" than Melee, so Ike stands in power) and tricky moves like Aether, Range Dash or Counter. I've seen pro Ganondorf spamming fair and winning, by pushing people shieldgrab range with a good placement.
People only need to believe in him. He will turn great.

Even if he is as slow as you say, I wouldn't mind, speed isn't an obstacle if you play it smart and know how to string the right movments and dodges together. Yes I haven't played with him, but I have seen several of his moves that I would consider quick. Most of his smashes no, but I don't see a need for him to be any faster.

Sounds like a guy I would main unless he is as unwieldy as Bowser was in Melee :(
Even harder to imagine Black Knight in Brawl after reading this.

Never said he was. :/
Besides, someone said that it's hard to even short hop with Ike, because a lot of his aerials take a bit of start up time. I'm sure there's at least the bair that's fine, but who knows. If you people are expecting him to be something of a high/top tier, then I'm on the opposite side of that theory. I'll do the VERY BEST I can with Ike to make him as good as possible. I honestly don't see them tweaking any of the characters before the release, but there's still a bit of time. Either way, ;-;.

I've decided it since Ike was shown, I will try to main him along with the rest of the possible FE chars.
But from what I know, Ike's Aether doesn't lets him hold from the edge, why? Because he falls quick?

Wait, are you asking if Ike can use Aether or not to recover? If you are asking that, he can.
