Meowth was originally in Smash 64 as a Pokémon, but for whatever reason never carried over. Of course Meowth has gotten a major overhaul since then. He’s definitely approved from his days when he only shot out coins in all directions.

It's a good enough update for a Pokeball, at least, but what's up with this?

Ok update i gues the best update for this week has been the sandbag one sorry. I was hoping for a big update today besides this though i found using the wiimote to play might be interesting. But I think I will just stick with the cube controller.

It's called a Koban

The koban (小判, alternately ōban) was a Japanese oval gold coin in Edo period feudal Japan, equal to ten ryō, another early Japanese monetary unit (a ryō can be imagined as worth a thousand dollars, although the value of the coin, like the value of the dollar, varied considerably).

The Keichō koban, a gold piece, contained about one ryō of gold, so that koban carried a face value of one ryō. However, successive mintings of the koban had varying (usually diminishing) amounts of gold. As a result, the ryō as a unit of weight of gold and the ryō as the face value of the koban were no longer synonymous.

The Maneki Neko is often depicted holding a koban, though the koban most Maneki Neko hold is indicated to be worth ten million ryō.

I cant beleive they stripped him of his original pay day in the first SSB (coins being sent in four directions) but Im glad to see that he's back....I wonder what other pokemon wil join...maybe other classics like Hitmonlee and Onix???

the Gold coin is called "Ryou"...I dont kno the actual math....but I heard that three million ryou is worth Three Billion US dollars

Meowth is cool to have back in the game though. Weezing took his place in Melee. Although they changed him now. He seems to target the closet person to him and throw coins. I wonder if he will talk or just say "Meowth".

Totally agree! Deoxys, Munchlax, Meowth and, of course Lucario were my only sugestions for Pokemon newcomers! And also Gardevoir... cuz she was on the poll. Now all we have left is Lucario! Please Sakurai, add Lucario to the roster! Cuz all the other pokemon left really don't deserve to become PC!!!

lol, those five pokemon are only striving because you're making them strive. For all we know Sakurai could pull some random Pokemon out of a hat and make it playable.

I'm glad Meowth is out. I find him to be extremely annoying.

They already had a moveset for Meowth from when he was competing against Jiggs in the first Smash Bros and then when he was replaced by Pichu due to time restrictions in Melee. Why couldn't they have just given him the moveset that they had in mind for Brawl? But yeah, Lucario is pretty much confirmed in my eyes.

I totally agree with the fact that Lucario is most likely going to be the next playable pokemon. I am very excited for it. Also, who knows? Infernape might be a playable char, not saying i want him.

Ok, sadism aside lucario would make a nice addition to the cast. However I don't know if Sakurai is going to use Poke'mon trainer as his easy way out of adding more poke'mon to smash. I'll also randomly throw this in, I want baby mario and luigi as IC clones...

I kind of like having Meowth back as a poke'ball poke'mon. It's nostalgic.
