New update, Hopes crushed

Todays update is an assist trophy, and like most trophies, is a character that people had hoped would be a full character. Today Lyn (or Lyndis for you fancy pants) from one of the GBA Fire Emblems was shown to be an Assist Trophy.

When she lands, she builds up power and then vanishes, only to reappear and slash at someone, sending the victim flying. She seems to be one of the more powerful characters, Sakurai saying “You’ll get helplessly cut down if you suffer a solid blow from this blade.”

Of interest is one of the alternate endings of the particular Fire Emblem game shows that she marries one of the other main characters and has a child who stars in a later game. While it’s unclear exactly who she mothers, it’s either Lilina, Lance, Sue or Roy. Yes, Melee Roy. Wether that hints as to his return, or wether he’ll turn out to be an assist trophy, is pure speculation.

Aack, I really hoped she would become a playable character! She's my fave FE character only next to Marth, and as a FEMALE swordplayer, she'd be a perfect addition to Brawl's playable cast! Hope Crushed indeed...

It is very disapointing that Lyndis is confirmed as an AT. She had such potential going for her as a playable character. The topic title is very fitting. Lyndis you'll always remain in my heart.

My other hope is that if Lyndis herself could not make it Mikaya from FE10 could fill the role as playable female character (she's a light mage); I can only hope Sakurai doesn't crush Mikaya as well.

Obviously she doesn't got it, but at least they considered her for a character. I'm glad she is making the cut as an AT at least. I like it, I think AT's show that Sakurai is open to different characters from different games. Good stuff. Maybe Eliwood or Hector will make the cut?

What a title, what a day. 2 assist trophies in 2 days to add to the newcomer drought, 1 of them is a Mr. Saturn AT, the other de-confirms one of the hottest female character that could be in Brawl

That was about the only way Sakurai could have disappointed me with Brawl's roster, Lyn unplayable. I'll admit: I'm genuinely less than thrilled over this update. I just remind myself that he's done so many other things I really like, and that I'll still probably enjoy Brawl.

Ah well. Maybe we can get popular ATs added as true characters via downloadable patches or something.

She was the only Fire Emblem lord whom I've really warmed up to. What a disappointment.
Hmmm.
Weren't the first big "deconfirmations" followed by a newcomer in order to soften the blow?
Maybe Sakurai is preparing again... to get the hopefuls who didn't make it out of the way and then ease the pain by revealing... well... someone awesome!

A bad move on Sakurai's part...Lyn was one of the few original lords in FE, and a female nonetheless. I hope he does include Hector however, if he doesn't then he is just plain crazy.

She was my top wanted fire emblem character. I was just staring at the screen and saying no when I saw this update. I should really just be happy that's she is in at all, and she is one of the best ATs. But now maybe Hector has better chances.

Interesting yet...still lame for being another assist :/ Her effect actually sort of reminds me of protoman's from the megaman battle network game..if anyone knows what I'm talking about >.>

Just like several other people I wanted to Lyn to be playable. Still considering the competition she was facing from series characters both old and new, the chances were going to be small to begin with. So when I saw that she get put in as an AT, I was actually happy that she got to be included in Brawl at all. Thanks Sakurai

I'm gonna go cry in a corner and rock myself back and forth while I imagine that todays update is a joke. Of course sakurai is going to reveal this as a joke... right? right?! RIGHT?!!

I think this is the first unpleasant suprise I've seen in the updates. Major bad move IMO.

EDIT: You do have a pretty good point, franchise. Sadly lyn faced a TON of competition. Maybe he'll put in midna or someone to add to the female characters in brawl or someone like that.

Wow... I'm dumbfounded on this one. She was definitely one of the characters that I thought would make it into the game. Everyone seemed to want her in so badly.

As for me, I'm predicting a similar fate for my favorite FE character Ephraim. But he'll either be an AT or not in at all. Hopefully, I'm wrong and I can get him as a playable character. He's just so **** cool!

Well, I try and stay positive when I see chars deconfirmed. The way I see it, Playable characters fade and fizzle out with time, as tiers come in. Pichu is now a laughing stock. What if everyone preferred Ike to Lyn, and Lyn was known as the inferior FE representative?
With ATs/Pokéballs? You don't get mad at them when you control them. With PCs, you recognise disadvantages, lag of your attacks, weaknesses against foes - but with the items, there are seemingly no downsides (unless it's a Goldeen, Demon or Munchlax - but even then, their abilities represent their personalities well).
Lyn's in the game. And she seems to do nothing but good - her attack is in Brawl, her style, power etc. Do not fret Lyn fans!
