Introducing the Smash Boards Podcast, a semi-regular podcast brought to you by Smash World. Today Scav and I discuss the latest developments in the tournament community, Brawl release dates and controllers, and recap some of the latest happenings on Smash Boards.
For now you can download the podcast as an MP3 to your computer or portable music player, listen using the player below, or subscribe to our podcast feed. We’re still working on it, though, so we can’t guarantee that the address won’t change in the future–but we’ll keep you posted.

KiKi says “you know” a lot, y’know?

Yeah, I know. I was noticing that as I listened back. It’s something I’ll be working on. ;)

I liked it. Maybe have an “Interview with a Pro”? I think that would be interesting and entertaining…

What the hell, KiKi? You don’t sound like you’re thirteen years old at all.

That makes me laugh. I definately want more of this.
I second the “Interview with a Pro” idea (or even a “talk with a cool forumer”), and suggest maybe something that discusses character matchups in melee?…
And of course, keep us up to date with this whole official tournament stuff and the other things you mentioned in the podcast.

Very nice guys. Though I did have to attempt to roast you two in the Broom.
Thirding the Interview idea, which I’m sure you all would do anyway. Seeing as it’s a much lazier idea to have someone else write fifteen minutes of a twenty minute script. Obviously Wes needs to be dragged into it.

Very well done. I must admit Gid, programming KiKi to sound so human must have been hard work. :)

They used my idea. Sort of.
Yep, we have every intention of conducting interviews, and not just with pro players. For instance, I would much rather have M3D on the show to talk about MLG than talk about it myself. There are some logistical problems we need to overcome before we can do that, but it’s definitely in the works.
That brings us to another question though — how long is long enough? Or too long? A 30 minute podcast is fairly easy, and not that cumbersome to listen to, but obviously an hour would cover more information.

That was a very nice job. I’d say a 30 to 40 minute podcast would suffice, but if there’s new information out, go ahead and go for an hour.
It would be cool if you guys included something about the GDC (it’s going on in San Francisco right now), and mention the GSC made by Simna ibn Sind. I also like interviews to be apart of this.
The only thing I wouldn’t want is to listen to stuff in the forums. . . such as Pool Room and Melee Discussion (unless it was something big). It just wastes a few minutes of time.
-Le (Sushiman)
Valid points, though we want this podcast to be fairly encompassing, as well as include news that you didn’t already know. A few people are saying they wish we would talk about Smash *less*, though obviously Smash will always be the central focus.
But stuff like the various contests around the boards will get mention. And, since the idea is to drive traffic, we’ll also be mentioning cool topics many people don’t know about, such as Las Pictoras.
what is the “GSC made by Simna?”

If there’s enough stuff to talk about to talk for an hour, then I’d say to go for it. However, if you’re talking just for the sake of taking up time to reach some time limit, then that’s probably not good. :p
I enjoyed listening to it. Although Kiki sounded nothing like I expected. :P And also, I wasn’t aware that Smashwiki wasn’t open until now.
I think in the future, when some big news is released about Brawl (new characters, a new full trailer, etc.), it would be good to get a big roundtable discussion going. Grab like five people, and just weigh in. For instance, there’s still dissention among the boards as to whether or not Snake being in the game is a good idea. I think it’s great.
Also, should Sonic be in Brawl or not could be an interesting segment. :P
-McFox, for the uninitiated
*EDIT* “The GSC by Simna” is the Global Smasher Compendium, Scav.
Unfortunately, a roundtable discussion is significantly harder. Once we get beyond 2 people, we run into some big technical issues — and four or five people would be a trainwreck of voices.
We can set something like that up eventually, but a good way to do it in the meantime would be to have one, maybe two knowledgeable people that respond to emailed or posted questions. Or, the Kiki and I could read various posts about the subject, and respond, along with the guest.
There is a lot we can do, we just have to get creative with it :p

I think reading posts pertaining to the questions at hand is a very good idea.
And the podcast should last as long as you have new information or something interesting to talk about, whether it’s thirty minutes or an hour.
Nice idea! Thanks for doing this for all of us!

Awesome job guys. it was really cool. how often do you plan to do one of these things? I think if you made a question of the week or something it would help people know how to imput. Like, if I want to send a sound file to the podcast im not sure what to talk about (within the 30sec-1min). just an idea.
Also the Global smasher compendium is a program with google earth that lets you see any smashers near you. its pretty cool. ill tell simna about the podcast.

i would like to hear an interview with Simna on how he made GSC.
And interviews with tournament winners.

I liked it, I think you guys spent a good amount of time on each subject you guys had to talk about. Some funny stuff in there as well, and at least 30 minutes seems fine to me, but don’t restrain yourselves on the timing. Great stuff, looking forward to the next few episodes.
I didn’t realize how much fun it is to say, “wiki” until I heard KiKi say it repeatedly.

The GSC is short for the Global Smasher Compendium. Here is a link to the SmashWiki article:

It’s a nice way to meet other smashers, and the community.

Good stuff guys I enjoyed it.
What I’d like to see… er… hear more of? I actually (just this moment) came up with a few things.
Perhaps you could talk about specific characters in melee, maybe just a short “how to” or “General Tips with” segment would be a great way to directly tie the game into the podcast. It would also be a neat way to get an interview or co-host in; like, for example, having… oh say… that cool “

Well, I enjoyed that. I’d like some discussion of Brawl characters, just to hear some of the members’ opinions as opposed to reading them.

I enjoyed that podcast. I can’t wait for more.
Sadly, I can’t supply any suggestions. From what I’ve read, they’ve already been said. So yeah, can’t wait for more awesome podcastifulness and further improvement upon topics and what not. The podcast is off to a great start :D

Curious if replies on old posts are responded to. lol
I’m thinking interviewing tournament directors should be a top priority. I really think that the podcast makes the tournament seem more professional. Thinking this, I also believe that parents would be more open to the idea of allowing their children to participate.
Along those lines maybe even allow for people to submit pre-recorded advertisements for their tournaments to run during or after the podcast.
Final thought from me is a list of people who need to be interviewed at some point.
1) Danny. I mean come on how old was he at MLG Philly? Young’ns draw attention!
2) Wes. Come on, he’s Wes! And besides I bet there are at least a hundred people out there who want him to have his own segment. Question is can you con him into doing anything.
3) Women? Yes, let the people know that the .01% of the women on smashboards are actually, infact, women.
4) Rookies. Find a rookie at a tournament and see if you can’t get his/her opinion on their first experience.
Of course the Pros are always in the back of everyone’s minds so I won’t bother with that.
Keep up the great work guys! OH! And you must answer my email I send you! MUST!

Honestly, I think the GSC (Global Smasher Compendium) should be talked about. It really need to get out there moreso.
This is great, though. I love this.

This is really great! I don’t have enough time to cover all the forums. So if you covered major issues that are debated there I’d love to here it too. Great work, keep the podcasts long : )

Whoooa. Scav sounds a lot more different than I expected. As for Kirby King– yet, I haven’t really seen much of KK on the forums enough to expect what he sounds like.
But it was entertaining! Keep it up!
