Roger Smith (The Big O)
"Cast in the name of God, ye not guilty."
In Paradigm City, the past does not exist. It is a city of amnesiacs, a city of mystery, a city of crime, corruption, and mean streets. And on those mean streets, well, sometimes you need someone to get their hands dirty. That's where Roger Smith comes in. A rich bachelor and playboy who functions as a hired gun who gets the job done, Roger is a "negotiator", and with the help from his battle android friend R. Dorothy Wayneright, his butler Norman Burg, and his massive mecha The Big O, he's ready to infiltrate the shadows and uncover the secrets of Paradigm's lost history."Cast in the name of God, ye not guilty."
So, why Roger and why The Big O?
Not only do I simply find Roger and co. extremely cool, The Big O was a massive hit in the US, surpassing its popularity in Japan. It aired on Cartoon Network in the Toonami block, and the creator of the show has said that the entire show was inspired by Batman: The Animated Series, which really shows in the art style and in Roger's character. This show was so popular especially among the core fanbase in the US that Cartoon Network themselves stepped in to turn this series from 13 episodes to 26, saving it from total cancellation. That's right, it's thanks to Cartoon Network that we even got a second season at all! Crazy stuff!
What can he do?
Well, being ostensibly a secret agent, Roger has guns and gadgets at his disposal. A former cop, Roger is precise and clinical yet unconventional, and so has things like handguns, gatlings, and even a booby-trapped briefcase he could use along with plenty of cool cars. And of course, his Megadeus The Big O, a giant robot equipped with lasers and cannons. He also has his android pal Dorothy, a combat unit who has weaponry of her own and possesses blinding speed. Perhaps, given the tag team nature of this game, she could even be playable herself, or perhaps he can call on her to assist with certain attacks!
Anything else?
Yes. Here is the show's theme song. Do yourself a favor and jam to it.
And with that...it's showtime!
