Rocket Knight Adventures might fit the bill. It got 2 separate sequels at the same time that weren’t quite as beloved as the original.

My brain immediately went to Bioshock 2 and Dark Souls 2

Both games absolutely have fans but are also really polarizing

Rocket Knight Adventures is a good example of sequels that aren’t as beloved but Im looking more for sequels that the perception of is mostly overwhelmingly negative, usually for making changes to the original formula.

I am technically planning on talking about Dark Souls II actually in the video but not in the way people might think. I’m planning on bringing up Scholar of the First Sin as an example of a game with misleading marketing that doesn’t get across the idea of what a game really is since that’s a problem for a lot of these types of controversial sequels. Like I don’t think The Lost Levels would be nearly as controversial if it wasn’t called “Super Mario Bros. 2”

Zelda II is an obvious one. I'm not sure what the perception of Mario 2 (Lost Levels or USA) was at the time, might be worth talking about.

Star Wars Battlefront II 2017, maybe? Overwatch 2?

I am talking about Lost Levels Mario 2 in the video actually since it’s often criticized really harshly today, god is this game painful to go through…

Those other ones are good options tho.It might rely on talking about a game’s online which isn’t really my expertise and the lootbox thing for battlefront 2 doesn’t really apply anymore but I’ll consider them.

I mean people didn't really like Battlefront (2015) either. At least with BFII after the Lootboxes went away people ended up really enjoying it.

I liked Battlefront 2015 but I'm probably biased as that was my first online shooter game, with more comparison nowadays I might look back at it different. Had no idea the lootboxes went away lol.

Are there any fighting games at all that had a bad second entry?
